Dragon has always been perceived as one of Pokemon's best types, but has that really always been the case?

Applin is a Wyrm in an apple, as opposed to a Worm.

It turns out that Ampharos' name in Japanese is Denryu, which means something like electric current. However, if you split the word into Den & Ryu, it means electric dragon. So, wordplay can turn a sheep into a dragon!

The apple dragons are based on a type of dragon called a wyrm. Which almost sounds like worm. So you wyrm in an apple
  • 7:05 The applin line is a play on words— rather than a worm in an apple, it’s a wyrm in an apple

F for hydreigon. May your non stab flash cannon give you the illusion of still having a bit of control.

Gen 1 was bad for Dragon types (mainly Dragonite). Despite Dragon being unresisted in that gen, the only attacking move was Dragon Rage. Then Gen 2 added Steel types and Kingdra came alongside Dragon Breath. Gen 3 added more dragons than before, and Dragon Dance which is a staple (Salamence, Rayquaza, and non Dragon types) and Dragon Claw. Gen 4 did the Physical/Special Split, Draco Meteor, and added more powerful Dragon types, such as Garchomp. Also the DragMag combo. Gen 5 is the best Gen for them imo, and the most powerful. The fact that Dragon is only resisted by Steel and there were many ways to take care of that (DragMag and super effective coverage). Gen 6 dampered them somewhat due to Fairy types but caused more to use the uncommon coverage of Steel/Poison. Gen 7… Naganadel was powerful and got banned. Nowadays, Dragons are still going strong but have things to check them.

Can't wait for him to do ice types They were great. And horrible. And decent. In every generation 😆
  • I get why dragons got balanced because of, well, balance, but there was something intimidating about facing one in gen 3-5 and so rewarding about putting in the time to find and train one yourself to harness that power. Gave me the same feelings as finding/facing a pokemon with a multi-hit move in mystery dungeon

“Draco meteor will always be exclusive to dragon types” Smeagle, arceus and silvally have some news for you Also switching a fairy type into outrage doesn’t cause confusion

I'm actually fine with Dragons getting the balance hammer. Partly because I still find it funny that they're biggest weakness is a bunch of pixies but also because I sorta like the humbling they got. The loss didn't seem to deter them too badly and the term "Dragon" has become more accessible for the better...in most areas. To me, gen 6 marked the day of Dragon type taking itself a bit less seriously which I'm perfectly fine with.
  • Gen 6 kinda loosened what constituted as a dragon for Dragon Type (and even then, Altaria was one even in Gen 3 so...) but it still introduced one of, if not my FAVORITE Pokémon of all time, Tyrantrum, who IS Dragon. Pokémon finally releases a proper Tyrannosaurus rex and a badass one at that. I guess it kinda fits too considering that the Japanese word for dinosaur, Kyoryu (if I recall correctly at least) literally translates to something like "frightening dragon"

JPR: “Grass types are underwhelming” Me: “yeah, well, NASCAR is underwhelming!”
  • @Borchert97
Literally my second favorite type after Ice, and since Ice sucks I do gravitate towards battling with Dragon-types A LOT. Thanks for the video.
  • Jirachi also gets Draco Meteor as an event move, but that's basically negligible since it has other moves that work better for it
  • Gamefreak needs to add some form of nerf to the fairy typing in Gen 9 onwards given that the Gen 8 meta is currently more fairy focused!
  • I wish dragon types had more offensive presence It was already bad enough even in the golden era of dragons with it only being super effective on itself, but fairy crippled it by taking away its redeeming factor of being extremely spammable. Hopefully one day they can turn the fairy immunity to a resist or add a new type that dragon is SE against.
  • @Riftrender
If we ever get Mew Legends (I'm not sure which legendary would fit best) in Kanto we should get an old Charizard and Gryados that are actually dragons.
  • At 3:09, if you listen close enough you can hear SilphSpecter entering JPRs room pointing a gun at him, right as he was about to say Kingdra is trash.
