  • I don’t get it, what’s the bearing doing. The hole isn’t even in the middle
  • Yeah you can forget all the bearing nonsense and just chuck up the workpiece bolt with a nut on the end so you can clamp onto it with the vice and line it up perfectly below your drill press. Then clamp your vice in place, remove the nut from the bolt and lock a drill bit in the vice. The spinning workpiece ensures the hole is dead center and everything is lined up straight on so you don't drill at a weird angle. Also, peck drilling will help a lot in these cases. Finally, water is a terrible lubricant for metal drilling. Just use some 3 in 1 oil if you have nothing else. It's cheap as dirt. Hell, even olive oil would be better than water.

    Files are very brittle, so they easily break on impact. They are the last tool in my tool box I'd use to strike something like a hammer.
