keep up the good work 👍
  • I believe there were at least two reasons to the Märket zigzag line. One was the consideration of keeping both countries slice of the island the same size as before, which you mentioned. The other was not to mess with existing fishing rights. I think that requires both countries to have the same shoreline before and after the border change.

I was thinking about taxation of the Märket island thing. I mean that the border is so strange because of that lighthouse. Even about 100 years ago many lighthouse keepers actually lived in their lighthouse, it was their home. So if a Finnish lighthouse was on the Swedish side of the border and the lighthouse keeper living in that lighthouse was a Finn, which country did he pay his taxes to? Of course to Finland because the lighthouse is Finnish, but of course to Sweden, because the damn thing was technically on the Swedish soil. 😉😂😂 I know that today this thing wouldn't be a problem which couldn't be solved without moving the country borders, but I can understand that back in the day something like this could have been the reason of a huge quarrel and animosity. So perhaps, just to avoid an open conflict, they desided to make the border such strange shape instead? 😁😘
