Larry Hofer is currently converting his brand new C8 Corvette with a GM 8.1 liter direct gas injected big block. We are pretty sure he is the first person on the planet to do this using the existing C8 Architecture - In this video you will see the engineering process and initial steps to making this idea into a reality.

Larry Hofer is a San Diego hot rod ledged and published author of several horsepower technical manuals such as his most recent book: Chevrolet 8.1L Vortec/496 Performance Manual. If you would like to learn more about GM 8.1 L Big Block modifications, check out Larry's recent book www.americanbookwarehouse.com/4536363/

We will feature the progress of this awesome build as Larry gets closer to making this fire up and run.

You had me at "We cast our own DI big block heads".
  • @jetink600
When i read the title i thought it was just gonna be a stripped out drag racing car. This is 1000x more impressive!
  • @scottm7341
Wow, that's taking hot rodding to new heights! Maybe even where no man has gone before..
  • @GuitarManiac64
This is exactly my kind of conversion. Older but larger engine modernized to the extreme with factory controls. Amazing.

Finally someone willing to bring back the NEW UPDATED VERSION of the L-88 Big Block Chevy Vette. You GUY'S ROCK.....
  • As a C8 Stingray owner, this is exactly the kind of content I've been waiting for!
  • @bobross2066
I own 2 C8 corvettes please keep us posted. We would love to see more on this build. I hope GM is watching. It’s nice to see someone. Do GM‘s job for them. Keep up the good work.

I've always wondered what the potential of the 8.1 was. Cool to see an old school dude hot rod new tech.

Forget about the C8. A direct injection and variable cam big block. Hell yeah😁
  • @benburris4735
Worlds first direct injected big block and w/ vvt…

I'd like to see more coverage of this build. Thanks for showing. Mine

Who else wants a pair of those heads right now...
  • @MrUltraworld
Forget the myriad of costs involved for a moment. Can you imagine the cost and complexity of designing and casting your own cylinder heads for direct injection? That one complexity would floor most if not all auto fabricators with one swipe. I'm very interested in this build, please continue your excellent coverage.

Wow, between Pete and Kevin and now Larry you have one of the most fascinating channels Greg! Thanks for posting these videos. I can wait for the next installment.

This is some serious re-engineering of a cutting edge sled. Putting a BB into the C8 is insanity but soooo cool. The fabrication of various components strikes awe in any hotrodder’s life. This fellow is the real deal. Looking forward to seeing more on this wild project, thanks
  • @jaym4763
Hell yes we want to see it run
  • @johngoodwin2384
Larry is a good guy, I sold him lots of forged pistons for the 8.1’s in the early 2000’s. Easy to get along with, smart.
  • @Levibetz
At first my reaction was "ho bo big clock vette 🙄" but then, with the custom DI heads, those hard lines, the intent to run it off the stock ECU, the dry sump. This is an incredibly impressive project, very keen to see how this runs!

This is a piece of art that needs to be inducted at Bowling Green
  • @The-KP
Looking forward to watching it turn over
