There was another character too. This kid won a contest for 63 1/3 and was supposed to be a character in the game. He was cut too but they did have a model for him. I bet it was crushing for him.

I liked how the original Clayfighter had such ridiculously small stakes; the fighters were just mutated carnival denizens who were battling to be ruler of the park. That was quaint and it fit with the parodic nature of the game. The sequels had their moments, but they failed to capture that simple charm that the first one had.

fun fact: That Clay Fighter remake trailer was made by Oney! He was hired to do it and he made fun of the company in the trailer. He wasn't paid.

I guess now we'll see a Wha Happun on Ballz, the "3d fighting at its ballziest" at some point down the line now.

Fun fact, peeps at Interplay were once interested in making a Forgotten Realms (Dungeons and Dragons) fighting game and the Fallout series' Deathclaw design comes from the clay model they had made of the Tarrasque. Source is the Fallout Bible by Chris Avellone when discussing the Deathclaw's design origins.

My dad did all the artwork for ClayFighter! So many memories of us playing his game together growing up :)
  • The attention to detail that is having the Strong Mad clip being from when he himself dabbled in claymation is the kind of quality I've come to expect from this channel.

“To be fair, digitization really started with Pit Fighter...” N.A.R.C.: “Am I a joke to you?”

“It was 90’s as FU$k “ Lol that should be on a T shirt

I still have/play Clayfighter 63 1/3 (Sumo Santa main). It holds up pretty well. Still amazes me that such a janky game was able to get so many incredible voice actors behind it, like Charles Adler and Tress Macneille... and the uncredited voice of Goro.

When’s the “What happun” of the Scary Movie series?
  • @SniperDiplomat
Can't wait for "Fallout Van Buren: What Happened" where you go over the truly desperate times at Interplay where they hide in their offices to avoid paying devs.
  • Get the people who made Killer Instinct to make a remake of this

I was a huge N64 fanboy when that version of ClayFighter came out. Showed the magazine pictures to my friends and everything. We had a sleepover and rented the game - I felt so embarrassed. We ended up doing pass-the-controller speedruns of SM64 that night.

There's a whole imageboard thread out there of ex-Clayfighter devs dunking on the CEO of Interplay, I implore everyone to read it
  • @GenerationWest
The 90's, the REALLY loved doing digitization, especially for fighters. Like with Primal Rage, I only khow of this game through passing Matt references lol

I will say Visual Concepts most likely got te inspiration to make clay based games as Acclaim hired them to port Trog! to the NES, and Trog! was the first ever game to use claymation.
