My sBitx v2 Hybrid SDR HF Transceiver

Published 2024-03-09
I picked this radio up on a trade at a local hamfest last month. It's made by HF Signals (www.hfsignals.com). I've been a huge fan of their products since I bought their uBitx HF radio a few years ago. This one puts out about 40 watts on 80 thru 10 meters (somewhat less on the higher bands) and does pretty much every possible mode, all running from INSIDE the transceiver, thanks to the built-in Raspberry Pi 4. It's not exactly a beginners radio, but it has been a blast learning how to use it.

The receiver demo starts around 11 minutes, if you want to skip my ramblings

I think this is the future of ham radios - having a PC within them - so that all digital modes can be run from the radio without and external computer. Logging into the radio is also very useful. The Xiegu X6100 has similar capabilities. Good to see Farhan following/setting the trend. This could be a great radio for FreeDV (HF digital voice) work. 73 Ed DD5LP.

I love all three of my sBitxs, DE, V2, and V3. I keep waiting for software updates but they are few and far between, still I love it.

Great work by VU2ESE FARHAN 🎉.

Before you tilted it and show its size and depth, I thought it was as deep as a microwave oven hi hi hi
  • I really like mine. I have tried it with a 3b and a 4, both work. The case reminds me of an old Lloyd AM/FM my grandma kept on her fridge. Great for POTA with a couple of 10KmAh 3s drone batteries, and a cheap at-100 tuner clone.

I am intrigued. As a linux user. When the digital modes are configured is there a "builtin" audio and serial device that is used? Obviously there isn't anything plugged into the side? Or maybe the Rpi has a pi hat on it that does th audio and PTT? more likely

Was trying to figure out what software you added? Mine came loaded with all the same software.

Does this rig have a Noise Rejection function? If yes, how good is it? Thanks for the video and 73.

Will it run JS8CALL? I didn't see it on the drop down list. 73 Gerald KG0VA

I experienced lots of noise and whistles from a RPi next to my radio, how is this performing from that perspective?

I purchased one of the V2s at the first release. I found it missing some basics. I don't think it's ready for "prime time"

Looks to me like you need to do a software update.
