if you have more than 3 prescriptions, it is a good thing to have a list of your medications on a piece of paper. if you do have a medical emergency, it is really easy to just hand the paramedics the paper. if you have a complex medical history, it's handy to have that and allergies listed on the paper as well. - and that's not just for travel. it's a good idea any time.
  • Not sure if anybody mentioned this in comments, but I think you are supposed to have any electronics charged so if they need to be inspected they turn on. I love all of your travel advice, it makes me more excited and less stressed for my next trip.

I am a seasoned traveller, but this would be such a great video for anyone flying for the first time! Great information, so clearly and simply prepared.

My husband and I had not traveled abroad much while our children were small, but we've been on a whirlwind since last November. I found you on youtube to update my methods of travel, and you have been a lifesaver. I've always been a light packer, but after using your tips, I am a much SMARTER packer - even my overpacker husband has been converted. You have saved me from a lot of trial and error. I LOVE my carry on, compression cubes, compression socks and sundry that I have bought on your recommendation. Not to mention your tips. I now have a reliable, fast packing routine. Listen to Laurie, everyone. Thank you!

We took a trip just this past week from Spokane, WA to Albuquerque. Didn’t have to take liquids bag out for either leg of the trip. For the flight back from ABQ, we didn’t have to take anything out…no laptops, no liquids, nothing. It was nice. One thing I’ve noticed on the two trips I’ve taken this year is that we haven’t had to show our boarding passes at security, only our ID. On this last trip, I volunteered to gate check my carryon suitcase (for free). It was nice not having to wrestle it inside the plane, and fortunately the bags were delivered quickly to the carousel (and not lost!)

for men who haven't seen this before, I have a pair of golf pants that are made to be worn with or without a belt. even if your belt is 100% plastic, you may have to remove it, so I save bother by not wearing one - and I wear laced shoes with the laces tucked inside, instead of tied - and instead of a personal item bag, I wear a light jacket, with everything I normally have in my pants pockets in the jacket pockets, and the pockets zipped closed. that way, at the security line, I just put the jacket in the bin.

Great video and lots of information. A first-time flyer is probably clueless about the size of the overhead bins and the luggage size it is limited to. If you make another first-time video, have various-sized luggage to demonstrate carry-on vs checked and what a personal bag is.

Laurie, your travel tips have lessen my stress while flying. My husband and I are retired and traveling more than we ever have. I learned something new everytime I watch your videos. We just returned from Los Cabos and went through security (no pre-check there) and I did not have to remove my shoes nor take out my kindle and ipad, I was so surprised. We have lived in the Woodlands twice for a total of 18 years. 12 years ago we moved downtown to be nearer my husband's office. We miss that area and will be moving back north again. Thanks for your time and passion to inform passengers and making us aware and less stressed!

Such a great video...I was trying to explain some of this to my parents who have never flown, and I was sadly disorganized ( and missed some key info) compared to how logically you put all the critical tips, in a way that brings confidence, not panic. Thank you for not taking for granted that not everyone has been flying since toddlerhood. :)

if you are going to be checking baggage, or even for your carryon, it works great to put a distinctive wrap on the handle of your suitcase, unless you have a truly unique suitcase. it always seems to work out that about 25% of the suitcases on the airplane are similar in appearance to yours, so putting a distinctive wrap, either by sewing cloth onto it, or by doing a "friendship bracelet" wrap with one or two cords in your color will make it easy to spot at a distance.

I can’t thank you enough for your super helpful videos!!! I’m a nervous flier. It’s been many years since I’ve boarded an airplane. All of your tips and tricks has helped me so much!!!
  • I followed many of your tips for my trip last summer to London. One thing I would change for myself is checking my bag because 1) I'm too short to reach bin and 2) I couldn't handle that carry-on, getting it in or out of bin. That doesn't mean I'll overpack. It just means I won't take it on board. I'll still have a personal bag and maybe a light bag, like a tote, that can easily be put up into a bin. Thank you for all of your tips. 😊

I’m not a first time flyer, but it’s been quite awhile since I’ve flown and I have my 2nd EVER flight booked for this week…I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately and they’re great, thanks!! Do you have any tips for avoiding or reducing motion/air sickness? Thanks for any advice, Rachel.

Hello from Texas. THANKYOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO . We do not fly that often, were a little worried about going to the airport. You made us feel at ease lol . We love all your Videos, keep up the great work. GOD BLESS and safe travels

Can you do a video on Clear, Global Entry and TSA precheck if it's necessary. Also the best sit on the plane if you have fear anxiety about flying. My bestie is a flight attendant. Please follow their directs. If you don't, it can delay the plane taking off. He had to actually remove people from the plane for certain things and it just messes it up for everyone.
  • Great video! Last time I flew was in 1992! So, I'm a first time flyer in the new world of flying!
  • @staceyharpest
Love your videos Laurie! I always learn something new. One of the things I like to do instead of taking a picture is scanning a document into notes on iPhone. Open your notes and start a new note. In the options on the bottom tap the camera then select scan documents. Clear documentation every time! Another tip while waiting to board is listening for the gate agent announcing the flight is full and they are asking for volunteers to gate check their baggage. Sometimes they offer a perk with that, but always ask where you will pick up your luggage once you arrive at your next destination.
