the whole mv is inspired by the movie “midsommar” — the one in the mv is a girl and they’re making her as their “may queen” it’s actually against her will since it IS a cult. also, spoiler in the movie they killed someone and they took out his eyes and stuffed his sockets with flowers— that’s what they were referencing with this shot @5:44 anw, midsommar is actually a good movie. i highly recommend it if you’re into the horror genre :) has great cinematography too!

I ended up rewatching Midsommar today after this dropped 😂 I wouldn’t say its necessarily a fun watch but I think it’s insanely well done and an awesome choice to use for artistic inspiration, I’m a little surprised Joy picked something as dark and explicit as a concept reference but Red Velvet absolutely killed it and the mv is GORGEOUS and the song is amazing!!

The vid of them on the beach is not an MV teaser but an album trailer. Basically, they shot a trailer on what the mood of the album would be like as a whole. So it is nostalgic also cause it is their 10th anniv.
