Stunning film footage of Mexico City and nearby places, filmed towards the end of the 1940s or at the beginning of the 1950s. The film shows great views of the Plaza de la Costitutión, Zocaló and its Metropolitana cathedral in Mexico City, other beautiful buildings like the Palacio de Bellas Artes as well as a number of car journeys through the city and beyond.

The original film has been motion-stabilized, enhanced and colorized by means of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence software. It is based on raw footage, probably intended for a movie or documentary. We have deliberately chosen not to cut or edit each scene, so some parts of Mexico come into view for a longer period. You can skip scenes if they seem too long to your liking.
For reasons of copyright, the Mexican style background music is by contemporary artists, so not from the 1950s.

1950 Mexico looked lot more progressive and developed than many countries during that era in the world

Ciudad de Mexico and La Habana looked so lovely and magical in the old times. 💖💐👍 The Mexican culture and people are amazing. Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾

This is a beautiful rendition of the original film. Going by the apparent years of the cars, I would say that it is closer to 1940 because the majority of the cars were from the 1930's and a few possibly 1940- 41. Just my opinion as an 88 year old.

I'm from México City. This is from 1945. I saw an advertisement for a mexican movie called "Canaima" that premiered in '45. 18:00
  • Just like Rio, Havanna and a lot of other citys around the world, they looked a lot more beautiful back then.

Wow!

  • The entire planet was a much better place to Live back then: Clean cities, NO plastics and garbage everywhere, Slim and fit people walking. Almost no crime, No car traffic, smog, less people....

  • My dad was born in 1950 crazy to see how mexico was back then 😢
  • @lizpena8813
My daddy was born in cdmx in march1959. Thank tou for giving me a glimse of the past

That film is so clear and vivid it's like traveling back in time; you don't get that feeling with most films from years ago. I wasn't even aware of A.I. software for film, shows how much I know. (Is motion stabilization what's used with some silent movies, to make the speed what it should be, because some of them look the way a regular movie does, not as if everyone's moving a bit too fast.)

Hello Rick, I love how you managed to seamlessly slot the appropriate music into each segment. I was completely focused on the video. Your hard work is very much appreciated. Thank you.
  • I love how the camera calls people´s attention, and now we all have one in our pockets
