Both are eldritch monsters of the void sent to the world of the heroes to destroy and gain information for the gods that sent them (Azathoth and the Watchers), but they would semi-rebel against their masters so that they could stay on this world longer (Nyanners because she liked it there and Vel'Koz to gain more intelligence). They are actually only one of two of these creatures that we know about that has gained sentience and independence (Goro and Bel'Veth, except Goro is Nyanners companion while Bel'Veth is Vel'Koz's rival). Both also have a thirst for knowledge and are willing to consume and destroy any mortal or even their own kind in their pursuit of it (Nyanners to find out the meaning of her existence and Vel'Koz looking for weaknesses in Runeterra).
