Mat’s flown over to the south of France for the ultimate Porsche road trip!

He’s got his hands on what he believes to be the four best iterations of the Porsche 911, and he’s going to drive each of them on a 500-mile journey from Lyon all the way to Monaco to find out which takes the crown as the ultimate 911!

So let’s look at what he’ll be driving, starting with the 911 Turbo S! We already know the Turbo packs a punch, as its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six has taken down SO many competitors on the carwow drag strip. But take a step inside and despite being a true powerhouse, the 911 Turo is still so luxurious and comfortable. The version we have here is covered in leather and comes with super comfortable sports seats, and even though he’s set to encounter some twisty mountain roads on this route, it’s more than capable of handling these sorts of conditions.

After the Turbo Mat will be jumping into the Dakar. It’s based on the 911 GTS, so it comes with a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 480hp and 570Nm. So of course it’s a bit down on power, but it comes with a whole load of modifications to make it really stand out. However, given it’s really built for off-roading, will it offer any sort of competition to the power and performance of the 911 Turbo when it comes to driving it on tarmac?

Following this we have the Carrera T. It comes with the same 3-litre-twin turbo flat-six as the Dakar, but in this instance, it can only put down 385hp and 450Nm of torque. What’s more, it’s fitted with a 7-speed manual! It’s the cheapest car Mat will drive on this trip, with the price tag coming in at £106,000 - £9,000 more than the standard Carrera. So it comes with the standard Porsche look and feel on the inside, and it’s also super light, with the rear seats stripped out to really help enhance enjoyment on these twisty mountain roads.

Then finally we have the daddy - the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS! It comes with a glorious 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that can produce 525hp and 465Nm of torque. It weighs in at just 1,450kg, and you can imagine that it sounds absolutely epic when it’s running through the numerous mountain tunnels on this drive.

The question is, can any of the other cars really compete with the new GT3 RS?! Or will it just enhance its name even more and prove to be the ultimate 911? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

That Turbo S being green was the biggest surprise of the entire video
  • @dudepubgm
It would be great if carwow made more roadtrips with supercars

So happy to see the cameraman who’s keeping you alive (cameraman never dies) get a shot with the GT3RS too!
  • @uGotGot1618
The turbo s running a 2.87 0-60 in those conditions is insaaaaane. Seriously one of the crazier things I’ve seen on this channel when I really think about it.
  • Out of all the 4 Porsches the turbo S is my favorite for this kind of road trip

Seeing the cameraman's reaction to the GT3 RS was so wholesome. Mat is so used to the experience so when you see him drive it, you can tell he's happy but he's not overwhelmed with joy whereas when you see someone who doest get the opportunity to drive these crazy cars on a regular basis get a go he is struggling to contain the excitement and the kid in him is just going crazy. So beautiful to see.
  • Please do more content like this. It's really informative, and it's better for most casual buyers, who're confused as to which car to get. Carwow never fails to impress.

As a manual 992 T owner, I agree - and the only thing that could pry my car away from me is a GT3 Touring or GT3RS allocation.
  • @rmp5s
I'd take that Turbo S. Anything can be made fast...making something THAT FAST AND that livable? THAT is TRULY amazing.
  • @AMAN-AN
These road trips are very good 👍 Carwow should definitely do these in the future. I would like to see one with Yianni if possible
  • I added the magnetic paddles from the RS to my 2024 GT3 — paddles were $750 plus $200 to have them installed. A lot less expensive than the Wessach package for $29,000.

3.5 seconds to 60 with tyres on the roof 😂
  • @jonathanpatze87
Optic wise it's GT3 RS for me, overall Turbo S. But I agree with Mat: the Carrera T is pretty much all a mere mortal needs.

Might be worth mentioning that 911 T when put on Dyno mine is 410 up from 385, and for those obsessed with 0-60 time in dry the PDK will dip under 4secs..amazing car

We love the GT3 rs. Yet, could not have a better line up in my opinion. Smashed it Matt!!
