The crowd roared as the chutes holding back a beast and a brave rider swung open. The 2000-pound bull exploded forward, kicking and spinning wildly. Brent Thurman held on for dear life as the raging beast did all it could to send him to the ground. Every buck sent Brent shooting forwards and backwards. Yet his determination and skill kept him glued to the bull. He willed himself to best the beast for a whole eight seconds. But this short time frame stretched into an eternity as the last few seconds remained. Will he come out victorious, or will he be trampled by the deadly hooves of a wild animal?

This is the story of Brent Thurman - the legendary bullrider who was the first to ever die at the National Finals Rodeo.

  • What a remarkable guy. RIP, Brent. Would YOU ever get on the back of a bull?
  • I grateful to know Brent. I also rode bulls out of north Texas and he was out of Bastrop Tx, he traveled with Brian Peewee Herman out of Victoria Tx. He was a true gifted athlete and a good friend. He lost his front tooth when bull headbudded him in the bucking chute. He was always made us laugh and was a positive person. Those were great times in the rodeo game even when Bodacious was going down the road. We also lost Glen Keeley out of Canada in Albuquerque NM. I miss them and there's not a week that goes by that I think about them. R.I.P. Brent and Glen. Heaven is our home but were not yet homesick. I'll see you guys again someday.

Rodeo bulls are not wild animals, just regular domestic cattle.

Well Well Well, what did he think was going to happen???

I have no pity for ANYONE except the bull. People get what they ask for.
  • Poor bulls having to be used as entertainment by idiots. What a pointless exercise in nothingness. Who cares if someone can stay atop a bull for 8 seconds.
