re: how people get their houses so dirty - it probably isn’t the canonical reason, but if you live in an area where wildfires happen often, ash covers surfaces pretty densely. I live in california and I’ve seen houses this totally covered in ash

Imagine hiring a dude to clean your house, then you see this guy running places to places, shooting water everywhere and anywhere, crouching, crawling, rotating the nozzle, replacing the nozzle just to clean your back yard. Then he says "Speedrun!"

so, the story of that level is that it's a new family who just moved in, and they aren't letting their daughters out back because of how filthy the last owners left it. It's all in the text messages that pop up in the story mode. As for why the furniture is also dirty, dunno
