Amtrak Trains Ashland, VA

Published 2015-06-20
Amtrak only footage from my recent visit to Ashland, VA. This includes Northeast Regional trains, as well as the Other Medium distance and long haul trains that pass thru here. In a separate video I will include the freight footage.

I apologize if some of the footage seems sideways, this was my first time using a tripod and frankly since its a brick and concrete platform its not the best place for level shots.

  • Awesome catch of those Amtrak heritage units and great catch of that Amtrak dash 8
  • Great catches and video from my favorite spot! Nice catches during Amtrak rush hour and other times during the day, and I see you got 184 leading P091 and some other cool stuff! Also I see the auto train and plenty of regionals, good stuff.
  • You lucky son of a gun! I missed it, and #184 transferred on PO52 for some reason so I couldn't get it :(  Regardless, great catches!

I would think that if AmTrak can improve service (more frequent cross country trains, more destinations and on time service), they can put a serious dent in air travel. Yes, there's more money in freight service, but if time isn't of the essence, I would rather travel by rail. But maybe I'm dreaming.
  • This is a great video, but there is something I am wondering about. There are two active railroad crossings at either end of the station area, plus they are street running. While the bell is ringing, why does the engineer not blow a whistle upon approaching this area? I just wondered.
