Great video lots of good info thanks I’ve been growing in northern Wisconsin right on Lake Superior very unpredictable weather Jet stream runs right through my backyard I swear 😶‍🌫️ short growing season here as well just wanted to say thanks for the tips I’ve been at it for 12 years now self taught trial and error for the first 9 years I’d say until I found what works best for me and ran with it and your garden is amazing you gave me some excellent ideas
  • Great info. I really appreciated the potato info. Where I had lived, after the attempts to grow potatoes had only fed underground critters I switched to the fabric pots and was convinced they were the most fantastic thing. I had never tried the plastic pots just assuming they wouldn't do as well. I am planting in ground this year as my new property has no evidence of moles or voles (yet) but will also grow a couple pots just in case. You are my new favorite YouTuber. Thank you.
  • Your YouTube content is a great complement to your Seed to Table course, Jared. Neil and I are getting a lot out of both. Thanks!

(0:14) Intro Start curing onions/garlic Regular harvesting and processing When to harvest corn How to renovate strawberries for productivity Potato container growing trial results (0:54) Potato containers Potato Varieties: Bellanita, Norland (7:27) Ginger Started in late Winter on 10x20 trays with heat mat (10:23) Strawberry bed in high tunnel (12:04) Corn harvest Explains how to determine best harvest time (14:45) Strawberry tunnel Last harvest in late July, early August Cut tops of all plants immediately after harvest for all his June bearing strawberries Stimulates new growth, eliminates dead leaves later, reduces mold Leaves only thrive for 4 months then die anyway New leaves will last until Spring After leaves removed, can re-asses plant density 1 plant per square foot is ideal for June bearing strawberries Landscape fabric with pre-cut holes is ideal, stops runners from rooting in random spots Overgrown plants can be replaced with new runner They only top with compost ever 4 years Ideally would remove fabric and top with compost, but hard to put fabric back on. (19:58) Outro CROP VARIETIES: Potato: Bellanita, Norland, Smart
  • Great Information: I especially liked that you addressed the added cost of buying the containers and the soil to fill them up. Other Youtubers rarely address the high cost of getting started, especially when people are looking to gardening to offset high inflation/food costs. I think it's more reasonable to look at gardening as a multi year project. You won't make back financially what you put in the 1st year, but as you continue the rewards increase.
  • Great video to fellow Canadians! So awesome to see another family doing what we love too! :) We're in Northern Alberta and have a channel called Four Seasons North - Biegel Family :) All the best to you and your family!

With the potatoes, could it be that the fabric side got less sun due to shade from the shed?
  • Ginger takes a year before you harvest.your ginger is only starting to grow

Using peat is so damaging! I love your videos, but please stop using peat. They've banned the sale of it in places like the UK.
