Yellow, the stick figure from Alan Becker's Animation vs. Minecraft series, travels to my computer and joins the Rivals Workshop! Expand for download links.

...He also comes from Animator vs. Animation, but this mod is mostly based on the Minecraft shorts.

By picking a different alt costume, you can also play as other characters like Red, Blue, Green, and Purple... and kind of King Orange? The proportions aren't the same so idk. Fans of the series might also recognize references on most of the other costumes - there are 16 total and most aren't shown in the trailer, so try the mod for yourself!

Yellow uses martial arts to fight, as well as pulling out Minecraft weapons like a diamond sword, minecart, dispenser, and more. He can equip and unequip the powerful Command Block Staff for a whole different, powerful moveset that costs meter to use. His normal attacks change to create trails of blocks as a ranged attack, while his strongs and specials become all sorts of different techniques using Minecraft commands (which are all accurate to Minecraft or AvM, by the way).

His home stage, based on King Orange's bastion remnant, takes place at some point after the events of Animation vs. Minecraft's third season, with cameos in the background from all of the series's main stick figure characters. In Aether form, King Orange leaves his throne and becomes a cool boss fight, and the player who defeats him gets to wield the powerful Minecraft Game Icon to enhance their attacks with netherite blocks.

This mod was really fun to work on! I got into AvM recently and binged all 3 seasons, it's such a good series. The command block staff was part of my inspiration to make Wes's moveset, so it's kind of come full circle here.

I originally thought about making King Orange, since he's best known for doing cool attacks with the staff. But I ended up choosing Yellow, since he has the staff AND he can use other iconic stuff from AvM, like the pig and fishing rod. This decision also allowed me to include more of the lighthearted energy from the series, which wouldn't fit as well on King Orange. And in the end, I got to include him as an epic boss fight instead! Yellow's staff moveset is also heavily based on the cool stuff King Orange does during his appearances in AvM.

The animated intro and the stage NPCs really ballooned the scope of this project, since both of them required a lot of extra animation work. It took a while to finish all of that, but I'm super happy with how it turned out in the end, and it was really fun to do more "traditional" animation for a Rivals project. The intro has a couple of rough edges since I don't really have a good workflow for this kind of stuff haha.

no wayyyyyy. you guys really did your research. well done

I refuse to believe that you can get more ambitious than literally letting the player change the code of their character mid match. It just isn’t possible
  • @MRTCRonny
I love how King Orange's own staff is actually the one Yellow created with the help of the VIllagers during the Titan Ravager episode, because the one himself created is in Yellow's hands. That's something so great, it's a detail that follows the lore of Alan Becker's AvM shorts

Love that you had to put in parentheses “(mod trailer)” because someone might confuse this for an actual video Alan would make, Because the quality is OUTSTANDING

This is an amazing love letter to Alan Becker's animations. Everytime I think it's cool it gets even more complex and cooler.

I was questioning why it was Yellow specifically, but then I saw him pull out the Command Staff and everything made sense. The fact that he has such a unique weapon definitely makes him stand out, so I can see why he was chosen to be added. Also the stage being King Orange’s bastion, with himself also as the boss encounter is really cool and very fitting.

The intro is probably my favorite part honestly. You did really well on the animation but I think you just perfectly got the whole...mood right with them; Playful, mischievous, curious and willing to play new games and things, to explore it. The beginning interaction of discovering the game mechanics, TSC straight up hitting Yellow, Yellow revenging w/ Command Staff for an instant 100%, and the both of them cheering despite TSC being wacked so high to pancake into the ground/taskbar...Seriously, you encapsulated the attitude of the Animation vs series, especially the vs Minecraft one with these silly little Stick Figures Thank you so much for a fun mod! You did great work!

...gosh, this is so very clearly a labor of love. Every little detail is correct, even down to the sudden lines of code from the command block staff. I can easily envision more Alan Becker characters being built over time, especially TSC using the pencil tool.

and you thought rivals modding isn't getting any better than this
  • @nobody7204
The best is, you can literally recognize from what episodes most of the moveset is from
  • Idk why itz wholesome for me when king orange greets the gang along with purple in 2:42 ITS SO WHOLESOME.
  • @FireyDeath4
God damn, Alan needs to see this Also I don't know how the hell they make sprites so fast. I imagine if I tried to do this I'd finally be done after maybe 3-6 months
  • @teaboy0996
King Orange seems like a pretty beginner friendly boss. I've never played before, so it'll be a nice experience!
  • @Quarkbrief
That was the smoothest mod trailer i have ever seen. I literally didnt realise it was showcasing a mod until i saw the gameplay
  • @statelyelms
The commands popping up as they summon blocks or apply effects is so cool and an excellent choice
  • @CK_123
I didn't even realize that when TSC was uploading Yellow the creator is listed as "By ITSMEYELLOW" which is a fantastic reference, this is seriously insane dude
  • @danhatter6823
If you told me this was being officially added to the game and/or Alan Becker himself worked on it, I would believe you in a heartbeat, this is so cool!
  • I'm surprised the "Yomi hustle" mod community didn't beat you to this already, looks great!
  • @Videomen102
I don't know what's more impressive, the fact you were able to perfectly capture the personality in the movement style of the AvsA Stick Figures, or the fact the AvsA Stick Figures have enough personality to be able to perfectly capture.
