  • Family lore can be terribly misleading! In my family, tradition said that my GGGF, Shepard Sewell, had died at the Alamo; however, he was not listed among those who were known to have fought at the Alamo, although there was documentation that his brother-in-law, Micajah Autry, did fight and die at the Alamo. The truth was discovered in an old NC newspaper on microfilm which had a very brief obituary that my GGGF, Shepard Sewell, had died in NC in 1833, 3 years BEFORE the Battle of Alamo was fought!
  • So did they change the birth year so it looked like the second husband was the father?
