  • Splatoon is one of those games where the lore is locked behind “data logs” called sunken scrolls and Alterna logs that are unlocked in the single player mode
  • turf war is not considered competitive because the whole objective can be achieved within the last 15 seconds if anything. with the other game modes, you would have to be consistently better than the opposing team and maintain that level or more in order to win.

Turf War wouldn't work as a ranked mode. It's more of a casual introductory fun mode. Turf war victories are somewhat random. You can paint the whole map in like 30 seconds if the other team dies, so really the last 30 seconds are what matters. Turf War is fun! But I don't think it need a ranked mode. The ranked modes require a bit more effort. And don't tend to have random victories.

Turf war actually does have a ranked mode! It's used during splatfests (big ingame events that take over an entire weekend) where in this version you can choose between 3 teams and rank up during the weekend depending on how much you win or lose. This will impact the outcome of the event! It's basically just a huge turfwar tournament where you are given a rank and better rewards depending on your performance during the event.
  • The connection errors are rough. It can be really frustrating when you’re kicked from the first three matches of the day. All in all tho, I enjoy the game
  • I love that he actually really plays the games before he reviews them. Holds so much more weight to me. Plus he isn't afraid to call out BS on a game. I don't know if you read these comments but I just want you to know I super appreciate the effort you put Into these. Love nontendo podcast to!!!!!!!
  • The reason it seems to happen so often is they force everyone to disconnect from the server when 1 person disconnects/closes their switch. If it's searching or early in the match it'll dc, if it's far enough into the match then it'll let it play out and reward the winners if they were the one with the missing player or will reward nothing if the full team wins. And sometimes its straight up broken lol I got dc'd while doing a ranked series and it counted as a loss even though I know it wasn't my hardwired connection.

they don’t have turf war in ranked cause they have Splat Zones. it’s like king of the hill + turf war since you’re meant to control a specific area towards the center of the map. there are even some maps with split zones that you have to control at the same time and it’s a lot of fun!

As much as I love this game, I swear I've had way more connection issues in this one than in Splatoon 2. At first I thought my internet was just being screwy, but I logged off and immediately jumped into some of my other online games (including Splatoon 2) and everything worked fine. Hopefully those issues can be patched though. EDIT: Just figured I'd mentioned that with the recent patch, things have been working way better. Still more connection issues than I would like, but it works at a rate I'd consider acceptable now.

10:50 Actually, your friends lockers do show up. Kind of. The lockers on the far right wall once you go in are your friends. I only noticed by chance when I was scrolling through them all and recognized a friends name. They tend to cycle through your friends as well. Lockers right next to yours directly are people you just played with. I'm not quite sure what the lockers on the left are, maybe most popular? Someone else let me know if they've figured out.
  • @Cashewz698
Regarding ranked turf war, splat zones is basically that. I don’t believe regular turf war would be good for ranked cuz the end result of turf is a little random.
  • Gotta love how the update to fix the online issues made it worse
  • Salmon run is much harder than i thought it'd be. It's really hard if you need to pick up slack for someone
  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who took a while to find the lockers. I honestly thought they were in the town area and I eventually gave up before seeing the doors and wondering what was behind it.
  • @granitecarbon
I mean technically you didn't go over everything because you didn't mention table turf battles which aren't the best to begin with but they aren't bad. Really good video though always enjoyed the content you put out 😊
  • @ari.h2
the amount of connection issues is actually ridiculous. especially when you finally get into a battle and then someone ELSE disconnects. like i get nintendo’s online servers are notorious for instability but i can’t help but feel it’s especially bad this time round.

Some things about Turf War I wanted to mention: Splatting even one person in Turf Wars is actually super important, it makes the entire team lose 1/4 of its power for usually around 10 seconds, which can be doubled by killing just one more person, and it allows for a chance to resplat them when the super jump, and that's huge when each person is so valuable to the team. Spending one second to splat someone is FAR better than spending one second to splat a tiny bit of turf that will just get resplatted by the opposing team later. If you get a wipeout at pretty much any point in the game, you've probably won. It's not the most competitive mode though, it's true that the tides can completely change in just 10 seconds. Also Turf War isn't in ranked partly because of this last part I mentioned, the tides can turn in just 10 seconds.
  • Salmon run is my favorite mode, I think there is a ton of fun to be found in just that one game mode
  • Splat Zones is essentially the ranked version of Turf Wars! Same concept, but you have to maintain turf in a smaller area. Splatting the opponent team becomes more important, as does holding the same turf. But all the Turf Wars skills transfer over pretty directly. Also, I've really been enjoying locker simulator while the multiplayer is stuck in 'A communication error has occurred' mode.
