NJT-CSX Meet; Union Pacific Livery Leading CSX Freight: Roselle Park, NJ 6/14/12

NOTE: YouTube's "anti-shake" filter seems to have introduced some distortions to this video. I may re-upload it later, but it isn't in the original!

I hadn't been railfanning for a while, so this afternoon I went over the Roselle Park, NJ, train station.

My first catch was a New Jersey Transit led by engine 4011, a PL42-AC built in 2004.

Next came a CSX freight of 96 cars pulled by engines 694 and 7502. Engine 694 is a AC60CW that's been spotted in New York, Indiana, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama. 7502 is a C40-8 that's been spotted in Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Illinois, Kentucky, New York.

At the same time, the 1:34 p.m. NJT to Newark pulled in, permitting me to catch both in one shot. The NJT was pushed by engine 4004, also a PL42-AC built in 2004.

If you stop the video at 2:35 and slowly go frame by frame, you'll see some artistic, if risque, graffiti on the side of one of the white hopper cars!

Walking home along the embankment, I was caught by surprise by another freight heading the opposite direction on the same track. I wasn't expecting there to be two freights that close together, so I wasn't very prepared. The video I got was a bit shaky and the zoom caused some pixilation. I wouldn't be posting it here were it not for the fact that the lead engine looked strange...then I recognized it as Union Pacific colors! The logo and name had been painted out (you can still see the discolored areas where they were). No other name was on it. The number was 9040. Behind it was CSX 5446, an ES44DC.

I'm not sure what the story is with the Union Pacific, though I would assume it has been procured by CSX and will get their livery painted soon. The 9040 running number is curious, as there is a CSX 9040 C40-9W in service. 9040 may be its old UP number. Perhaps someone can fill in the details?

In any event, the train came to a halt between the Roselle Park train station and Union Station for about two or three minutes and then continued on.

Thanks for watching.
