2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport review & 4-month test – why are they EVERYWHERE?

Published 2021-03-27
The Land Rover Discovery Sport's been the backbone of the DriveTribe video team for the past four months – so Mike Fernie joins me to tell me all about it. Meanwhile I give it a full poking about as usual, and I get it a tiny bit muddy and I misidentify a lady as a man.

Love my Discovery Sport. Had it for 6 years and it’s been the best family car ever 👍

We bought our first Discovery sport SD4 HSE in 2019 (it was a 2015 2.2 diesel). We loved it soo much we just bought another, this time a 2017 Dynamic LUX HSE. Quality vechiles

Take it off road, like it’s predecessor, the Freelander 2, you’ll be surprised at just how capable it actually is

We have one of these , great all round car and it’s like a tardis inside.

It's a great car, comfortable, plenty of room, looks good, sad to see it go 6......
  • Informative and occasionally amusing. Every winter I think about buying a Land Rover of some sort, thinking that it’ll save me from harsh winter conditions I have to contend with as I live on the outskirts of a town. I’ve never bought one, although I did have a Forrester once, it was quite good. However, I now have a GR Yaris (did I ever mention that?) and I’m convinced it will be great in all weathers on all roads.
  • That section with the fallen tree is really gnarly, almost got the Defender stuck a week or 2 ago. Thank god for diff locks
  • Why is it that when a Land Rover needs a new part it's a heap of shit but when a Land Cruiser needs the same part it's mainatiance?
  • I've got a 2018 model, and love it. How does is detect speed cameras? Mine doesn't - doesn't even show them on Satnav.

Our best car was a Freelander 2, love Landrover! Now a RR Velar. I left our RR Sport to our son in law : 175000 km and stil top !!

Thank Tim. All very sensible 👍🏻 Which did you prefer? Your Touareg or Mike’s Discovery? (Engine aside)

Why can my Land Rover Discovery Sport only run less than 400 kilometers per tank? Does this car consume so much fuel?

Love my DS, only thing missing is a true panoramic sunroof. This fixed glass roof is not cool.

O sure about the rolling into corners, maybe compared with a 911.. It’s impressively stable as far as I’m concerned
  • Having spent a day in one… they’re not all that. My 6’5 friend hardly fitted in the passenger side. He fits in my Mini Cooper from 2004 tho. The ride didn’t feel that refined. My 2020 focus vignale is better in ever way except for the off-road clearance and modes.
  • Why so popular? Because they are an affordable Range Rover in most people’s eyes. Status without the price tag.
