Welcome back to another episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, which examines all of your favorite shows from back in the day, from big hits to cult sensations and more. Back in the early nineties, the Fox Network had a bit of a niche as the home for some of the coolest sci-fi shows of the era. The X-Files, Millennium, Space: Above & Beyond, M.A.N.T.I.S…they had loads of stuff. One of the best shows of that era was Sliders, which starred Jerry O'Connell as a student named Quinn Mallory who creates a "sliding" technology that allows him to slip to other dimensions. Joining him are his mentor, Professor Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), his love interest, Wade (Sabrina Lloyd), and a washed-up soul singer, Rembrandt Brown (Cleavant Derricks).

As the show went on, there would be cast additions and changes, including Jerry's brother, Charlie O'Connell joining the cast, along with the controversial addition of the gorgeous Kari Wuhrer, plus a network change, budget cuts, and more. Join us as we explore what went right and what went wrong during the show's uneven five-season run. Join us as we dig into this Sliders TV Show review on the latest Gone But Not Forgotten!

there was one episode that they slid into where it looked and felt like the home world, but Quinn opened his gate to his house and it didn't squeek, so they slide out of it. Then his parents come out and admire the work fixing of the squeeky gate letting the audience know that it was the home world, they just didn't recognize the gate. Damn, that was pretty mind blowing scene there.
  • When you watched Sliders and grew up to realise that ours is the dark timeline.
  • Anyone remember the episode where they returned to their potential Home but only had like 30 seconds on the Timer to decide if if was the right one? The only thing they had to go on was that Quinn's gate always squeaked as long as he could remember and it made no sound when they tested it. They left, and we found out that Quinn's mom had a handyman fix it just that morning! 💔
  • Rembrandt carried sliders so hard when he was the last original character. He's the #1 reason I can actually enjoy watching the last season
  • My brother and I both agree, when they killed off Arturo, the show went down hill pretty fast. Thanks for the great video.

This show was great, until it wasn't.
  • The moment the original cast started leaving the writing was on the wall. I especially missed the professor, the mix of older and younger characters gave the show a more rounded feel and made it appealing to a wider audience.

As a kid in the 90s, I remember watching the very first episode of this show and being excited to watch it every week... for a while. It was maybe the first time I experienced a good sci-fi slowly losing what made it good. It would not be the last.
  • Sliders, quintessential sci-fi schlock for anyone who was a kid in the mid 90's.
  • Losing the Professor from Sliders is like losing Uncle Phil in Fresh Prince

I loved this show. And throughout the 2020 lockdowns I could not help but think that I had slipped into one of those bizarre worlds in the multiverse from this show.
  • There's a recent interview with John rhys Davis, where he discusses with great passion the science of the show and how frustrated he got with the writers refusing really good scripts from outside of the writers room and wasting the shows potential on generic scripts that all other Sci fi shows have done in some way

The show "the pretender" would be a good one to do. Does any other 90s kid remember that show?

I like how they didn't even mention season 5 where Jerry O'Connell was replaced by a different actor, but still played Quinn Mallory. Such an unfortunate end to a show with amazing potential.

My favorite one was that episode where Quinn met his younger self. The Earth has greater gravitational pull, thus making time run slower. He made his teacher fall in love with him and then at the end of the episode, he admitted to the teacher that his name was actually Quinn, the adult version of her student.

it was cool to learn what was different in each world but even cooler to notice what stayed the same, like the cab driver. Not only Slider got me hooked, my mom became completely addicted to it and she hated sci fi. Watching it became a family tradition. When they killed the Professor my heart broke down.
  • When they killed off the Professor that was the beginning of the end
  • @JadeDragonMeli
The squeaky gate was brilliant. I remember even as a child being blown away by it.
  • To this day Sliders is still one of my favorite TV shows simply because of the potential it had till season 4 and 5 when they went down hill. I would love to see it come back!!
