Porsche 911 997 C2S - Bargain Retro Porsche?

Published 2024-05-05
Here’s the Porsche 997 C2s project car! which already has a huge 30k of RPM Technics upgrades!

It’s a good car but we can at CTR we can take it to a new level and we are excited to do so!

What's your opinion, is this the last true analog Porsche in the 997 and about to become one of best-modified Porsches! Going to some battle now against CTR Vantages...

Great car and can't wait to see your progress with it.

Hi Richard, if you change the offset of the wheels, it will cause a force moment and increase bump steer and contribute to the feeling of a slightly ‘jiggly’ ride - depending how much you change it

996 and 997s are brilliant value at the moment. Love my 996.
  • Hello love the content. Was looking at this car on the auction actually. I think its a good steal. However, only thing I saw your exhaust pipes looked very black. Id double check all is well as its sometimes a tell tail giveaway to an engine issue. Hopefully not but car looks amazing!
  • I've only 911 I've ever driven was a 997.1 carrera 4s. I wasn't impressed by the power maybe I expected too much. It was only a short drive but the handling felt soo stable and the noise was beautiful can't imagine how a gt3 would feel

Hi Richard I have had a 2006 997 Carrera S with factory fit GT3 body kit and 19 inch Turbo wheels - I don’t think I have seen a better combination, but I am of course bias…. My only criticism is the ride even with the standard PASM suspension on normal, it can be unsettling on fast bumpy roads. I keep thinking the car is probably better with 18 inch wheels, like my 2006 987 Boxster S. I have had both cars since they were 2 year old and love them both. I will be interested in the suspension choice you make. 🤔 Cheers Steve

Top video I drive this road most days good roads if there empty Look forward to the hever castle meet and the Bewl meet in August My favourite roads round here are from Hawkhurst to rye especially if there’s no one about

Lovely car and great video! Would be interested to know how the buying process on CC went, how the car lived up to the description and what the overall condition is (put on a ramp and get a specialist check over) as I'm curious to compare the value/risk compared to buying from a dealer/Porsche Specialist.

Once this has CTR’s touch it’ll be an amazing drivers car, great starting base
  • Gt3 / Turbo brake master cylinder and braided flexi’s sort the progressive brakes.

Very nice indeed other than the decals I’d be happy with it as it is albeit everyone to their own, enjoy 👍

Saw this car on CC and thought it looked a good buy, but I’m looking for a convertible having sold my Vantage coupe. Will be interested in seeing how you get on with the 997 and how it compares to the Vantage 👍 …and watch out for the deer on the Bayham road 😆

I would avoid all the 997.1 3.8 M97 cars. The engine is a time bomb. Bore scoring is very prevalent, plus there is the well known IMSB issue, which are not serviceable on the 2005.5-2008 cars. The only 997.1 I would buy (besides a turbo or GT3) is an early 2005 3.6 Carrera with serviceable IMSB. The car still must be bore scoped, but the 3.6 is much less vulnerable to bore scoring. Replace the IMSB as soon as you buy it.

Very interested to see how you improve the ride, and wether you can make the Kw's work.
  • @markrangers1423
Had a gen 1 997 eight years ago, think it was the bore scoring problem porsche fixed as it was under warranty then, so cheap now these must have found the bottom

My 997.1 was a bargain. Beautiful condition, low miles and huge fun. Then bore-scoring struck…
  • @jimgraves665
Its odd but that looks like a wide body with narrow body rear wheels.. I cant explain the weak offsets never seen that bad on a 997
