He doesn't get talked about enough. This is the Usain Bolt of pole vaulting, you are witnessing next level greatness.
  • The crowd on his last jump might be the most hype thing I've ever heard.
  • @JC201039
The guy was further ahead of 2nd place than 2nd place was to 11th place. Absolute dominant athlete, up there with the greatest Olympians ever.
  • We’ve seen mondo coming for many years and he did not disappoint. He’s one of those child prodigies who never slipped back into mediocrity. At every level he continues to be a prodigy.
  • I love that he'd already won but had them raise the bar so he could break his own WR. Boss.
  • @rafleischman
This guy is insanely good. People have no idea just how difficult it is to be this consistent and on this level in the pole vault. Mondo is not just on another level, he is in another stratosphere.
  • 3:14 Striking the Yusuf Dikeç pose after hitting the jump is straight up gangster
  • @LostKinda
Homie thinking about breaking his own records while the rest of his competition trying to clear 6
  • Mondo is one of those rare athletes you simply can't take your eyes off. Like Usain Bolt, Messi, Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Ali, and select others, you just HAVE TO watch. Every time he performs, something very special could happen, and you almost expect it. Yet, it does not become routine, but it continues to amaze.
  • I am not a pole vault fan, but I have heard this man for a thousand times. He is born for this game.
  • Man I feel like a kid in a candy shop just watching him compete. He’s giving us a world record at every major championship pretty much. We are so spoiled in this event.
  • @dexterfm
lol love the commentator's sign off: "with one attempt remaining, jumped higher than anyone in history. whadya gonna do?"
  • He came to Paris with the gold medal and new record already in his pocket. He just went through some formality. This is a Superman.

I have come back to watch this 7 or 8 times today. The magnificence of the achievement. The roaring of the crowd. It's such a powerful moment. I've only gotten to watch 6 Summer Olympics in my life, but I can say with confidence this is by far one of the greatest Olympic moments I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing.
  • This is the 2nd upload. The 1st one was deleted, along with all the initial views and comments because there was an audible f-word heard during the hugging at the end. I believe at around 6:18, one of them said “effing nice jump” which they have now censored.

I like how this is the one sport where you can be like, "I'm not done. Raise the bar...higher." "But sir, you already won the gold medal." "I said HIGHER!"
  • Great to see Sam K and the rest of the group cheering him on. Billy Mills was in the stadium watching, and he commented that this was the loudest he has heard a crowd at a track and field event.
