Rachel says she’s actually going to USE the pretty fabrics she’s collected, and all her fellow textile squirrels are like, “Wait. What??? I do not understand.”
-
Rachel in the old house: I need more space so I don’t have to be a floor troll. Rachel and Nick buy a large “new” house with a two story barn, AAAND she’s still a floor troll. I. Freaking Love. It. #foreverfloortroll

Rachel expressing her need to make her own clothes because the item of clothing she wants doesn’t exist, is honestly how I’ve been feeling lately. And so, with so much trepidation, I will attempt to make my own clothes this year 😬😅

This video demonstrates the different time eras in Rachel’s and Bernadette’s life. Rachel discovers a 1970s machine, while Bernadette gets the dust off of an 1880 hand-operated machine

I remember this from commercials in the 70s and 80s. I think the "killer app" for it was to be able to hem curtains while they were up on the curtain rods.
-
Rachel: I need to cut back on large projects this year for the sake of my sanity, so I will only be doing one large make... Me: A year? I guess that makes sense. Those large projects are exhausting. Rachel:...a month. Me: 😮
-
It would probably be a huge undertaking, but as soon as Rachel said she wanted to do more collabs, all I could imagine was Rachel teaming up with Evan and Kaitlyn to make some kind of massive multimedia wearable or a costume and prop duo. The combined creativities, skills, and personalities would be incredible!

I'm old enough to remember commercials for these portable sewing machines from like the 80s... and in the commercial it was always an "emergency" situation, like the hem of your dress ripping in public and being able to quickly fix it... or your kid's costume needing an emergency fix before going on stage. Quick, short, emergency was the name of the game. But imagine carrying that thing around in a purse. 😂 Hard no. 💜

It’s a simple chain stitch machine to use if you have a long gash to mend. It really isn’t meant to use to make an actual garment, so you did great actually.
-
I'm 51, and back in the day I suggested my (seamstress) grandma get that to help with her sewing. She had a very snooty response hahahahaha

The old singer machines from the 1890s were similar chain stitch machines. The victorians and edwardians made EVERYTHING on them. 😁 to finish the row because there's no backstitch, you have to physically tie the loose ends into a knot, otherwise its easy to unravel. You did amazing 😊
-
The fact that she hasn’t made two patterns that she’s combining together kiss before is a crime 😂
-
I would love to see a video where she revisits things to either revamp or fully finish them like if she ran out of time or they didn’t turn out quite right the first time she did them.
-
The second you said you want to be like Maria I was hoping you would use curtains and you delivered!!
-
Rachel, you've inspired me so much over the past 5 years that I got a normal sewing machine for Christmas and will be attempting garment construction for the first time!
-
I can't wait for Rachel to try stamp making, I can imagine the ferns she'll stamp along her door frames ❤
-
There are “Dad” jokes and then there are “Maksy” jokes. You never disappoint 😅👏🏻👏🏻
-
I heard you like sewing machines and construction so I made your machine into a power tool 😂
-
I can’t believe it’s been FIVE YEARS since you went full time! You’re still one of my favorite YouTubers. Your videos always brighten my day and remind me that I can try things without being perfect at it immediately.

This looks like a chain stitch machine (as you noted) and for me the BIG advantage of these is that you can pick out one end and unravel the entire thing instantly, which means it's perfect for basting. Snip snap, the seam needs to be moved over 1/4", so you restitch it, and zzzzipp, out comes the basting line. It can be really helpful.
