Lyrics:

Sometimes you’re better off dead
There’s a gun in your hand and it’s pointing at your head
You think you’re mad, too unstable
kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
in a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police! There’s a madman around
Running down underground
to a dive bar in a West End town

In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
West End girls

Too many shadows, whispering voices
faces on posters, too many choices
If? When? Why? What?
How much have you got?
Have you got it? Do you get it?
If so, how often?
Which do you choose
a hard or soft option?
(How much do you need?)

In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
West End girls
West End girls

(How much do you need?)

In a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
A West End town, a dead end world
East End boys, West End girls
West End girls

You got a heart of glass or a heart of stone?
Just you wait ’til I get you home
We’ve got no future, we’ve got no past
Here today, built to last
In every city, in every nation
from Lake Geneva to the Finland station
(How far have you been?)

And a West End town, a dead end world
the East End boys and West End girls
A West End town, a dead end world
East End Boys, West End girls
West End girls

  • I'm not sure why, but I always feel like 80's music represents a more futuristic world than the world turned out to be.

For 3 minutes 54 seconds I was transported back to 1986. I really miss the 1980’s😞.

Why are 80·s songs sounding better as each year passes
  • I miss when I could just sit and watch MTV all day. Life in the 80s was good

There's something about 'West End Girls' that embodies the duality of the 80's—a mix of carefree energy and the anxious anticipation of a world on the verge of transformation.

To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life.

It is 2024, I am 74 years old and still loving this like the day I first heard it.
  • Neil looks so majestic in this video. Just the way he walks and looks at the camera, this coolness being in contrast with his youthful teenage boy face. What a beauty he was.
  • I will be 71 in a few days and absolutely love this song, well done !!

Although you don’t hear this on the radio anymore. I feel this song is still timeless.
  • When my father heard West End Girls for the first time in 1985, he had the feeling that a new era in music was being ushered in. This new synth melody with its melancholy undertone fascinated him. And indeed, the Pet Shop Boys revolutionized Disco/Pop music at that time. My dad thinks it's still a milestone today, and so do I. He made me a huge PSB fan and if I have kids someday, they'll grow up with their songs too❤
