Reaper is an incredible DAW. I switched to Reaper after about 18 years of using Samplitude and I love it.
  • @Orkruk
Thanks for the video Charles! I was looking for a way to record my bass to friends this really helped!

God bless my older brother, who just happens to be a music producer, that sneakily convinced my father to buy all this stuff throughout the years! Just need to download the programs! And use his stuff when he isn't around.

Thank you Charles, great video. In terms of DAW I've been using reaper for years, and that is very impressive. And as far as clipping is concerned, I've purchased the Zoom UAC 232, a 32-bit float audio interface, for a price equivalent to that of the scarlett focusrite 2i2, and I've solved the problem forever. And since equalizing is one of the most difficult problem to solve, I've also purchased Gullfoss eq plugin (which is not that cheap, but it's worth buying), which basically does the vast majority of the eq job by itself with a very comprehensive interface. Those are the three main valuable things (together with my bass and a good compressor vst) I use, together with many others things that might change from time to time. Not wanting to be a producer but wanting to remain a simple bass player with the goal of independently recording my own music, I have found that certain technologies are crucial to producing music that is also worth listening to from a quality perspective.

Well Done vid with clarity & concise explanations!! Thank You!!

I'd also say REAPER is a very good DAW which basically provides all capabilities and goes for $60 for the individual/small-scale business license (and frankly it lets you keep using it past the trial period even if you don't buy the license). And RME (Babyface Pro) is another good option for a high end interface. Beyond the hardware itself the company is known for its extremely well made drivers that provide perhaps the lowest possible round-trip latency on a PC.

this is just what I needed, thanks.

Keen to hear about filming yourself while you play as an addition to recording. Thanks!

Charles, Please make a follow up lesson to this on how to match the recorded audio with a basic iPhone or GoPro video as well. I’m sure many of us that currently don’t know how to do this would appreciate the advice. Thanks you!
  • @dariusbass

Hi Charles, this is a great video, I have a little experience recording but nothing near as professional as your content. This was fun to watch even though it's just an introduction. I'd love to see u guiding us through a whole recording and editing process of your playing, maybe that's on patron and I apologize for asking for it on here, but anyways, thank u so much for the knowledge you're sharing and for directly helping me out with my playing, you're such an inspiration as a musician, as an educator and as wholesome person. Happy year
  • @M2Mil7er
If you haven't bought an interface yet, some come bundled with a 'lite' version of Cubase or Ableton Live, which takes care of 2 things at once!
  • @Rosie.Kawaii
Do you think you'd be able to make a video on what you should focus on learning bass as a beginner?
  • @1234drums
    Thank you, Charles 🔥🔥🔥🔥
