Another Waterford person here...my daughter is going on her first train journey to Dublin to visit thr zoo in a couple of weeks and she asked me what the train journey was like, so a quick Youtube search brought up your great video of her exact route ! Shes only 10 and was delighted to watch it. Well done and keep those videos coming. Hope you get to visit us again in Waterford soon ! Safe travels !!!

Amazing video Johnny. Loads of great trim you did. Waterford is so beautiful.

I love how much respect and detail you give our trains. As someone from Waterford, it is definitely a rarity outside of Dublin to have a nice train station. You have a great channel, hope you visit Waterford again soon!
  • Another excellent video, really must go and get myself to Ireland sometime and explore by train.. even more enjoyable watching the video whilst stuck inside an oil platform in the middle of the North Sea whilst on nightshift laundry duties !

I can travel from Tipperary Station to Plunkett Station for only 8.50 euro return ticket. Incredible value for a day out or an appointment in the beautiful historic city of Waterford. Excited about the plans for the new station, but I really like the present one, and find it so relaxing.
  • Cant recommend Kilkenny enough for a long weekend especially if you like history. They have: Kilkenny Castle, Rothe House (a Tudor House), The Medieval Mile Museum & St Canices Cathedral and Round Tower (Early Medieval towers. The one in Kilkenny is one of only 2 you can climb.
  • Great journey as always, thank you for sharing. Agree that was a good price for the ticket!

Platform 10 is used for driver changes occasionally, and there are plans for an Islandbridge/Heuston West station to use the platform as part of DART+.

Your mentioning the 1960s made me think of trains back then: slam doors and the ladies only compartment next to the guard, the lingering aroma of smokers and wet dogs, and being able to stick your head out of the window before your mother told you off. Thanks for another fab video and the mural photographs! The elephant is beautiful :)

Great video. ThomasTown is a interesting village with a lovely vegetarian cafe in the centre and the Abbey down the road. I loved Kilkenny. There is the Smithwicks brewery experience, the high street and the castle. A buzzy place.

The trains in the Republic of Ireland are very reliable and the seats are so comfortable. Very nice 👍

platform 10 at heuston used to operate some services for passengers, with a shuttle bus as it is a good 10 minute walk from the front door of the station. spotted myself getting on the train in this video aswell lol

The franchise business operating on train catering went bust following Covid lock downs. Trolley services has been reintroduced on Cork Dublin trains in the last 2 months and should spread to all destinations by the end of the year. Hopefully that buffet bar will come back into use after more than 3 years.

I've just discovered your channel and have enjoyed your relaxed and informative style. In 2013, as part of the promotion of the post financial crisis 'The Gathering' tourist initiative, Irish Rail offered a 3 day unlimited travel ticket for euro 99. I hadn't travelled by train for about 20 years. So I took advantage and travelled from Heuston & Connolly stations to Dundalk, Waterford, Rosslare, Cork, Limerick & Galway. It is odd that the standard class seating is more comfortable than the first class seats you discussed.
