THE FAKE LUXURY EPIDEMIC: WHY DO CELEBRITIES & INFLUENCERS BUY COUNTERFEITS?

Published 2023-08-20
Today I talk about the social media trend that is sweeping not just the masses, but the supposed 'rich and famous' - and that is, the luxury fakes industry.

I among many others have noticed the surge in celebrities and influencers getting outed for their luxury counterfeits... but why do these individuals feel the need to buy fakes, especially if they of all people could afford to buy the real deal?

This is the topic of discussion for today's video, where we take a deeper dive into the background and psychology of these individuals, the impact on brands and consumers, and of course the ways we can try to combat this trillion dollar industry.

I don’t mind people buying fakes. Luxury brands often also exploit people and are big polluters. We should all just buy less tbh

I have both authentic and fake bags, and to be quite honest, I am not opposed to people having fakes. As long as they’re open about it, of course. But I get loving a design, but being absolutely not able to ever afford it for yourself and having your heart broken because you’re not as well off as many out there, who don’t even deserve it. ESPECIALLY with the crappy quality these days and horrendous prices in the same time - this on its own to me is disrespectful to a customer, and if the brands are not respecting us, why on Earth should we respect them??

They buy fakes because they finally have come to their senses?!

"luxury" industry is a scam anyway, suprisigly the richest man in the world is the owner of luxury brand ripping off people that wanna look expensive.

Can you make a video about jewelry stores/big name diamond sellers selling fake diamonds to rappers

The thing is to make a luxury bag it only cost less than 300€ but they sold it to you 8000€. It’s a scam.

Probably the price of a fake hermes is the actually production price for the original one😂😂😂...Mad world we live in🎉
  • Mel I wholeheartedly agree with all your main points especially with these influencers. I personally do not buy any goods on preloved market I’m afraid it will not be authentic. I have acquired my small collection straight from the boutique I want the piece of mind.

Counterfeit luxury breaks my heart with the unethical practices. I also don’t understand because to me saving and buying in store or from the supplier or vintage - is part of the experience. I don’t see how DH gate has any appeal honestly.
