Devastating Moore, Oklahoma EF5 Tornado - May 20th 2013

Only 11 days before Tim, Paul, and Carl lost their lives to the El Reno tornado. RIP to them and hopefully they’ve been able to chase some awesome storms in the afterlife

My mom remembers that the news man started crying and said “if you are not underground you are going to die”

I would be running red lights, hyperventilating, screaming and having a panic attack. Actually, I would never move to Oklahoma so I would be okay.

I live in okc and my dad lives in Moore. Keep in mind we do get ample warnings but most of the time it turns out to not be a big storm. Just like they make a big deal of it snowing and it never snows. However, this tornado was horrible. We’ve had previous devastating ones. This tornado went on a long journey it was horrifying to watch on tv. After this one if they think the weather gets bad schools let kids out early work let employees off early people get home and safe. The down side if we did this for everytime the weather is supposed to do something which 85% of the time it’s not half as bad as they say it is, then when it rains we wouldn’t go anywhere. Living in Oklahoma your entire life it’s just another day. Tornados comes and goes as fast as it arrives. Most oklahomans sit in their driveway drinking beer watching the storms blow by.

Interesting how people are still casually driving around like "oh hey a tornado... I need to go to work tho"

I remember that siren in GA and it’s scary when it goes off. You catch yourself standing outside looking up getting mesmerized of the clouds. And then the weird shade of green around you. It’s scary and very thrilling at the same time

When the sirens started, I got chills.

That's a force to be reckoned with. Rip to those who tragically lost their lives and to the rest still recovering from it.

At 3:41 holy shit. Run red lights to get home as fast as possible, grab the bug in bag, jump in the cellar. That's some real shit.

That massive tornado combined with the Federal Signal symphony they got goin on there is absolutely terrifying

That alarm is really frightening.

this one is pretty crazy. You can see the vertical cloud that is the tornado, but it's not even a funnel, and doesn't even have a funnel shape! It's like just a thick column.

I lived there for about 12 years. Every year there were storm's. We had about 4 or 5 close calls and one started twisting the house onthe foundation. My kids and I were living about 1 street away from 4th street where it crossed the highway. We got some light damage to our house. The real terrifying thing was that we were in my car, across the highway. It was coming straight at us. I couldn't comprehend what I was looking at. My kids could and yelled, "There it is!", pointing at it. I floored it, south. Away from it's path. I was easily going 60 mph when I went through that intersection they were recording from. You can see the light and the water tower. I don't know if you see my car. Debris was coming down as we raced south. I'm so glad we moved away. I don't miss the heat. I don't miss the storm's. I really think there are an extraordinary number of people suffering PTSD there just from the tornados. If I remember correctly, exactly 7 days later there were a bunch of smaller tornados that skipped around town. There were EF-0's to EF-3's? I can't remember. I really hated that town.

Can't imagine it's been 8 years, and it's still shocking seeing the EF5 bearing down in Moore across the board.

An "old tree" siting in Moore is a rare thing. Much more common is videos of tornadoes with repair work in the foreground from an earlier tornado.

Scary. To the victims who lost their lives on that awful day, RIP. To the survivors, you will always be in our hearts and in our prayers. :(
