Typography Basics & Figma - Leading, line height, widows & orphans

Published 2020-11-06
In this typography basics video, I cover leading, line height, widows, & orphans.

This is a short mini series where I take a look at the basics of #typography in design and how we can leverage it to create more breathable and aesthetic designs. I also take a look at some of the mistakes commonly made with typography that can lead to VERY unintended consequences...

What you have called a widow (one word alone on a line) is not really a widow. Widows and orphans refer to lines of text that are alone, not words. Either one line alone at the bottom of a column, or one line alone at the top of a column. What you called a widow - one word alone at the end of a paragraph - is most often called a “runt.”
