This is the #1 Korean BBQ in the World.

Published 2023-10-04
Today we go to the restaurant that has just won "Best Korean BBQ" 1st place for the second year running, to taste the best of the best of Korean Hanwoo BBQ.

Hanwoo has been called "the forbidden beef", because it is impossible to get anywhere outside of Korea. Arguably the highest quality Beef in the world, we flew our friend Mr Z, an Italian Chef, all the way to Korea to try it.

This is the first episode of a 6 past series - searching out the very best food Korea has to offer.

This is not a sponsor but thank you to Chef Min Kyeong Hwan and to Born & Bred for giving us an amazing experience!

  • Teared up a bit, I'll be honest. To see a man who has dedicated his life to food have the opportunity to experience the sheer expression of another chef's work—so touching.

Props to Mr. Z for learning Korean phrases to thank the chef at the end. It's clear he enjoys exploring new cultures. I kinda hope he gets to cook with a Korean chef during this series.
  • @TimeBucks
I love the little stories he told about each dish and how they were created.

Mr. Z’s Korean really shocked me the pronunciation was really good and I love the amount of happiness you just see as he tries new dishes. I also like the fact that he’s intrigued by the culture and flavors of Korean delicacies like someone might be like ew that’s gross but Mr. Z has such a respect for food that even if it might not be to his palette he can respect and be intrigued by it

The fact that Mr. Z learnt Korean phrases to compliment the chef is really admirable. And also from the way he pronounced those Korean phrases, it feels like he has been practicing them because they sound surprisingly fluent. Loving this series already!

Can we appreciate how much the chef integrated Korean history in with his dishes? I love the little stories he told about each dish and how they were created.
  • @dumplingdana
Oh I love how Mr. Z gets so overwhelmed by Korean cuisine and Josh just simply appreciating it. The bond is top tier.

i need to try the chateaubriand with the truffle 😋
  • @BreadKrumb
So glad Mr.Z went from a passing mention in a video to a guest, and now part of KE/Jolly in a way. Can't wait to see what the rest of this series has to offer
  • The fact this channel can teach new things to a world-famous Italian chef, still at the TOP OF HIS GAME, mind you, is nothing short of spectacular.

That's a very appreciative customer. And he used a very formal honorific for sugohaseyo. I am impressed with Mr Z. I went into sensory overload just watching the dishes come through. This is art. This is history. That is a chef who has creativity and such excellent pairing for condiments. Wow. My mind is kinda blown by today's episode. Today's episode is not just introducing Korean food to people around the world, it's a real cultural lesson. Wow.
  • @rollin340
It's amazing how the head chef came for this and prepared a special dish for the famous Italian chef guest, and yet, the one he was most excited to serve was Josh since he's a fan. That was an insane start. I need to go there...
  • @MikeThomassen
A thing, among many, that I really like watching this, is how Mr. Z is analyzing the food. Because he is a world class chef himself, he wants to understand "how is this so good". When he tastes something new, he's analyzing the taste, aromatics, aftertaste and flavour-combinations. It's amazing to watch. This series is going to be an amazing crescendo :)
  • @pepperpan794
Dude. At this point in time, I don't think I have the capability to taste all of the food they're tasting (and I don't mean that bitterly, I just mean that realistically). But their reactions, their appreciation makes me soo happy, as if I'm tasting the food myself. Incredible people working in front of and behind the camera. An amazing team! Thank you for bringing this piece of love letter to Korea to us, KE team. Truly, what a joy to watch! 🥲🥰
  • @Kkwangie
"We're having the best beef in Korea. We should also have some of the most interesting delicacies in Korea." Mr. Z has such a wonderful and open mindset. Very admirable!
  • @lilypads3033
This feels like a whole different series compared to the other ones, it feels so special to finally invite someone who is so knowledgeable and experienced in the cuisine world
  • @henzaen
The comments from Mr. Z is just perfection.. the knowledge and the comparison is amazing, his appreciation to the beef is just so cute.. The only hope i have is, they don't stuck with too much "the best this and that", because i kinda want to see Mr. Z trying korean street food as well

I love this episode! I love how Mr. Z is just giving us additional explanations into what's in the food, what ingredients add to the taste profile, how genuinely open and curious and honest his reactions were, and of course, amazed at how quickly he picks up the Korean phrases!!! I can't wait for the rest of the series!
