New details released Tuesday on the deadly ambush attack of a UPS driver in Irvine, California revealed he was allegedly stalked and killed by a childhood friend.

The shooting happened on May 16 as the victim, Expedito Cuesta De Leon, 50, from Aliso Viejo, had been sitting in his delivery van after dropping off a package at around 3 p.m.

Suddenly, a masked gunman pulled up to De Leon’s van and shot him 14 times in a matter of 19 seconds, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

The suspect, Rhean Jalipa Fontanoza, 46, sped away from the area. He was located about an hour later and was eventually arrested after a standoff with a SWAT team. New details revealed the two men, who were both UPS employees, knew each other and were childhood friends.

My father always told me, "Your best friend today, could be your worst enemy tomorrow." Guess he was right.

Shooting a childhood friend 14 times is not something you'd do because of money. This seems like it was over a woman.

Damn that’s ” you slept with my wife” or “you scammed me out of all my money including retirement” type of killing. So sad

As someone who hasn’t spoken to their childhood friend in years this is a concerning thing to hear 😭

There's a major difference between a childhood friend & a friend since childhood.
  • I am a retired investigator with UPS. No one is talking about the fact that the assailant entered the UPS facility, accessed a computer and knew how to find the victim's route. This was a tug of war with operators in management when I worked there. After the drivers are dispatched, the facility is to be secured. Operators always thought we were being jerks when we would attempt to enforce this policy. This tragic event is a good example of why the facility should not be left unsecured after dispatch!

my childhood friend got killed by his “bestfriend”. He told me himself that him and his future killer has been through thick and thin. He got stabbed 27 times in the neck and the back of the head.

THE WORD FRIEND SHOULDN'T EVER BE USED AGAIN. The killer doesn't deserve that benefit

Friend! Are you kidding me? That was no friend. No friend would kill another friend and certainly not shooting him 14 times. I hope that POS monster rots in prison for the rest of his life. Heartfelt condolences to the victim's family.

Murder means you have to hate someone so much that you no longer value your own life.

Looks like he held a personal grudge against his so called childhood friend How heartless 😢
  • THIS MURDERER SHOULDN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHERE THIS UPS WORKER ROUTE WAS AT.

The killer looks like he could be the victim's father.
