As a former member of an independent Christian band, I experienced this first hand. That's why years later I went to music production school to learn how to do all of the things so that I could build a music production company and hopefully label that can stick a giant middle finger to the mainstream music industry! It's just as corrupt as our nation's capital is! You are 💯 right that it needs a complete overhaul. The “data collection company” doesn’t really work for Billboard (even if they are getting paid by Billboard). They are working for the record companies, distribution companies, etc. Independent artists are a threat to that business model.

Keep fighting ! You, REN & Chinchilla, among others, have more talent than any "signed" artists. You no longer need the "industry". You got this with YouTube and social and your own talent ! ❤ The numbers speak for themselves.
