I'm old enough to remember pre madonna music. It's gone to the doggy dogs since then.

Doggy dog world has to be the most adorable of the eggcorns and it remains my favorite. Such a dramatic shift in meaning.

A while back I spent ages trying to find the spelling of 'with avengeance' only later realising that it was ' with a vengeance'!

Hehe, very funny. The ones I often notice are "with baited breath" (from eating a lot of worms?) "pouring over my books" (I envision someone with a jug of Bisto) and "bare with me" (no thanks, communal nudity isn't for me)

i and many other people pronounce "painstaking" with /s/, as if it were "pain staking". when i learned it was "pains taking" i thought "that makes so much more sense!!" i have also said "hunger pains" instead of "hunger PANGS"

One of my favourites is "with a fine tooth-comb" as if there are combs for teeth, rather than a fine-toothed comb 😂😂

I’m hearing “.. step foot in ..” more and more frequently these days, instead of “set foot in ..”

I have an issue with the duct tape explanation. I have worked professionally both in the installation of ducts and on film sets (weird, I know). In the business of installing ducting, we used a slightly stretchy, smooth, grey tape we called duct tape. Lots of it. Nothing canvassy about it. When I worked as a gaffer on film sets we used a canvas-type black tape we referred to as "gaffer tape". The canvas tape and duct tape are definitely NOT the same thing. They have different physical properties of colour, stretchiness, teariness and cutability. All they have in common is that they are tape and they are sticky.

I'm inclined to think that "duct tape" evolved into "duck tape" because the repeated "t" is phonetically difficult. We used to refer to collections of DVD's as "boxed sets", but because of the phonetically difficult "...xts..." sound in the middle, they have evolved into "box sets". i don't think Finns have this problem; they stop at the end of syllable before starting on the next, making the language sound "choppy" (that's what I was told by some possibly unreliable Finns).
