Two head end rides from the films of Red Moser. First, a trip from Philadelphia to Newark on the Crusader service in July 1975, then a Sunday trip to Philadelphia and return to Reading on the Sunday before passenger service ended for good on June 30, 1981.

I grew up in North Philly in the 70's and I remember watching the RDC's run past East Falls housing projects at speed headed towards the Reading Terminal, When I was 14 a relative of mine arraigned a ride along in the cab of a 3 unit RDC run from the East Falls station into downtown and into the Terminal , A as kid from the hood this was the treat of a lifetime !!!!!

I’m glad someone had the foresight to film these trips.

I remember my first ride from Pottsville to Reading Terminal around 1978 as a 10 year old.

Awesome footage! I grew up in Belle Mead and would often see the Budds drop off passengers in the evening. I've never found any video of that station online, but hope to someday.

Thank you for that look at history.
  • Used to ride the Rdc's from Lansdale to Bethlehem PA. Great times.
  • Film of going up the Aldene connection very rare and connecting with the Pennsylvania at Newark only thing you missed was going into Newark that's a beautiful old station

The tie was necessary as he worked in a bank in NY during his layover time.
