Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy Revisited: An Iconic Saga?

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy reinvented the superhero film. While Bryan Singer’s X-Men had been a hit a couple of years earlier, most comic book films - that one included - departed from their source material and seemed wary of costuming their heroes in ways that were faithful to their look on the page. Raimi’s Spider-Man felt like a comic book come to life, and while some changes left fans scratching their heads (organic web shooters?) for the most part, the first two films changed everyone’s opinion on how good a movie like this could be. They paved the way for the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, as well as the current MCU, and Tobey Maguire’s extended cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home was a crowdpleaser. With the potential now existing for a true Spider-Man 4 with Raimi at the helm, it’s a great time to look back at this iconic trilogy, which also starred Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. We cover all three films, including the divisive third film, so sit back and relax as we spin you a web-slinging tale like no other.

The Original Spider-Man Trilogy is Perfection.

Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever. Spider-Man 3, not unlike Halloween Ends, is misunderstood for the most part. It's a great ending and a good film. Tobey will always be THE Spiderman.

Spider-Man is what really made Hollywood and moviegoers realize that superhero films had a future. Blade got his foot in the door, the first X-Men movie opened it, and Spidey knocked it down.

The music score in the first three is just so epic. It kicks up in all the rite moments it’s on par with Star Wars and Harry Potter. Just makes all the big moments just feel even bigger and better.

While I did like a lot of things in the Marc Webb and Jon Watts movie, I still think Sam Raimi had the best handle of Spider-Man, even with Spider-Man 3 and the emo/bully Maguire

After just watching The Flash movie on my 4K TV, I've come to appreciate the Raimi trilogy even more. 20 years earlier these movies were way ahead of their time and the fact that the writer and director cared so much shows to this day.

The organic web was pulled from Miguel O'Hara in Spiderman 2099. It was an amalgamation of all the spidermen from the comics. The armored face of green goblin was also reimaged for the first cinematic appearance of Norman's alter ego.

There have been different actors playing the various roles in all the Spiderman films but Willem Dafoe IS the Green Goblin. He is the embodiment of the character I both hated and feared as a kid reading the comics.

Spider-Man 2 the kick in the bank to keep Aunt May out of the path of destruction was a great touch and in tune with the character.

Agreed. The Responsibility speech is still the best and most powerful. I remember getting chills hearing uncle Ben saying that live. I'd read it so many times in the comic books...it brought tears to my eyes. They've never been able to capture that again. Tom's Spiderman's storyline did a great job addressing the same concept without trying to compete. It was smartly written and respectfully done across-the-board.
  • Sam Rani & Christopher Nolan have the best Super hero Trilogies of all time!

rewatching all 3 recently I enjoyed sm3 a lot more than I remembered. it's still the worst one, but there's a lot to like abt it

Seeing this video made me think back and be less salty towards Spider-Man 3. At the end of the day it's still a part of my childhood, just like the other 2 movies. 🕷

Honestly, for any scene in Spider-Man 1 that has bad CGI, there 10 others with fantastic CGI. The final swing holds up very well today in my opinion.
  • @hammiranda
Spiderman 2 is the best comic superhero movie and Blade a close second.

Betty Brant: Your wife called. She said she lost the checkbook. JJ: Thanks for the good news!!
