I think "pistonPushAmount", and "pistonCanPushAnything?" should be gamerules in the game, would be epic for map making, and also for just messing around.

2:20 the game is currently in the process of going through the blocks that will go move once the process is over. And it will not stop this process until it runs into a block that it cannot move, an empty block that something a block can move into, or run until it reaches a limit, you removed that limit. You would have to load chunks until you reach the world border and then it would combine two blocks like that slab trick. Blocks can’t be updated outside your render distance, this is why flying machines break unloaded.

I think the reason why the piston didn’t extend downwards is because, pistons are hard coded not to move bedrock blocks. Maybe try another modification to make pistons push bedrock.

1:04 the reason why the piston didn't retract here is because of something called qc in a big nutshell it's basically when something is powered through 1 block air gap and it's commonly used with pistons. Hope I helped :)
