  • All those restaurants looked so good. I love the old type diners with the memorabilia. 💞
  • @diannewade9145
Thanks for sharing, the restaurants look amazing. As I said before we lived in Amarillo years ago and took my nephew to the steak house and it was a lot of fun. Great idea to sharing all your favorites. Thanks again.
  • @faithie116

Great video Jed and Sandy. Looking forward to trying here places.
  • It all looks delicious! So nice to see places from the screen in my home. Thank you!
  • @vafunseekers
We have been to the Big Texan Steakhouse and we loved that. Would love to go back someday soon. We got to see one guy try the challenge and that was cool. We are going to Arizona next month and looking forward to trying some of the restaurants along Route 66. Thanks for sharing!!
  • @andreabro654
Great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm going to try to stop at all the restaurants you recommended. We start 66 in Chicago next week. Can't wait to try some pie at Mid-Point Cafe.
  • Thanks for this video. I plan on doing a route 66 trip next year. I have taken notes. I will be starting in California to Ill.

I'm heading to Chicago from Texas via Route 66 later this week. I will definitely keep an eye out for Maid Rite, Cosy Dog, and Sid's

I was waiting to see if you included the Rt. 66 Diner. My favorite restaurant. My favorite is meatloaf with fried okra and mashed potatoes. It is also about the only place I can get chocolate Malts and rhubarb pie!

Those Maid Rite sandwiches remind me of ones we had at a place in western Iowa. They called them "loose meat" sandwiches, which was a really unfortunate name, but they were oh so good. And home made root beer? 'Nuff said! I'll go ahead and rank Midpoint Cafe right up there, because of their "Ugly Pies" and today is after all, National Pie Day. Safe travels, Sandy and Jed! -Burt in NJ

Emma Jeans Holland Burger in Victorville CA one of the best Diners on 66 since 1947!. Try the Brian Burger. Its a must!!
  • Some great places for sure on your list, but, and this is a BIG BUT. The Best restaurant on Route 66 is Westside Lilo's. Westside Lilo's is simply amazing. Especially, for breakfast, but really anytime. Excellent! I loved the video, and it gave me a few other places to try on my Travels! Thanks so much!

My wife and I have done the Route 66 trip about 10 years ago. We are scheduled to do it again in mid-July of this year. I dont believe we ate at any of these except Midpoint and the Rt66 Diner in Albuquerque and of course the Snopcap in Sliegman. . . I will add these to the list.

Maid-Rite is a franchised name. There were originally four franchises which opened several to many locations in the Midwest over the years. In the last 20 years or so there have been court battles. Everyone can search the history. The location I am most familiar with is Taylor’s Maid-Rite in Marshalltown Iowa which I have been eating at for almost sixty years. Their website says they have been in business for over 95 years. The reason other restaurants use the word loose sandwich for the same thing because the name Maid-Rite is copyrighted. Nu-Way burgers in Wichita Kansas copied them and opened in 1930. At one time they had four locations in Wichita but two have closed in recent years. The loose meat style sandwiches are often called Taverns. When I was growing up in Iowa churches ,other nonprofits and even schools would often say they were serving Maid-Rites at their functions. I never heard of any of them being sued.

I'm eating at the 66 Diner in Albuquerque in October 2024.
  • @bettystahl5920
As far as the first drive thru in America, Made Rite and Reds in Springfield, Mo. have a valid argument to being the first.

Please listen to the song "Get Your Kicks, on Rt. Sixty-six." Phonetically, it is "Root," not "route."
