  • I think it's funny how the co-pilot says you weren't 100% that day and implies that the plane crashed because he was drunk he saved 96 people out of 102 and his co-pilot was 100% sober and all he did was panic...🤔
  • In case anyone is interested, the malfunction is inspired by Alaska Airlines Flight 261, an MD-83 very similar to the plane in the film. The pilots on that flight, Captain Ted Thompson and First Officer William "Bill" Tansky, were both sober, extremely competent, and never gave up - including inverting to halt the dive. They were both posthumously awarded the Air Line Pilots Association Gold Medal for Heroism, in recognition of their actions during the emergency. Unfortunately, the plane crashed, claiming the lives of all 68 passengers & crew. The cause of the accident was failure of the jack screw assembly that controlled the pitch for the rear stabilizer. This was arguably a design flaw in all the md-80 variants as it is a single point of failure, however the main cause of the accident was the lack of regular maintenance. You can look it up, too much for a quick comment on a youtube video, but basically that's it.

"What's your son's name" "Trevor" "Say I love you Trevor" "Why" "Black box" If those lines don't make you tear up, you're not human.

"Pitch for glide" Scary commercial pilots actually have a term and protocol for this.

Seen it dozens of times. Still gets me to the edge of my seat.

The behind of scenes of this was cool. They had the whole airplane set in a rotating gimbal and the whole cast was really spinning. Amazing work by Zemeckis.

I know this is sorta based on a true story; Drunk or not, pilot needs commemorated with a lifetime supply of coke and booze of his choice. Saved a lot of lives.
