University students gathered in Amsterdam's Vondelpark, many of whom protested against their university's perceived complicity in Israel's war on Gaza. They described feeling unsafe and unheard by the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Recent protests resulted in injuries, and students' demands to sever ties with Israeli universities remain unmet. The university has estimated losses of up to $1.6m. Amnesty International has cited inflammatory social media posts from Dutch politicians like Geert Wilders for escalating tensions, highlighting a broader trend of far-right support in the Netherlands. Despite these challenges, students are determined to continue their protests.

    This has nothing to do with the right to protest. There have been plenty of protests without any police intervention, but obviously you cannot occupy buildings, tear down streets, and barricade the place. If you then also keep refusing to leave despite police orders, at some point they will use force to make you leave. Otherwise, we'd have anarchy.
