Towing 12,000 pounds with my Turbo 4.9!

Published 2021-12-28
Today I towed a 12,000 pound trailer with my 1979 F250. The truck has a 4.9L straight six with a single 78mm turbo and Holley Sniper fuel injection among many other upgrades. Thanks for watching, if you liked the video make sure to subscribe and check out the rest!

  • Nice to see the Turbo 300 Big 6 doing real work, in the real world! Occasional burnouts are ok I guess, but now that truck is fulfilling it's real purpose. So, all your paycheck wasn't wasted after all! Thanks for the update.

I've tried telling people what driving a healthy (N/A) 300 is like, and they never get it. It's like driving a small diesel big rig, up to 3500 shift, rinse, repeat. With a turbo, man this thing pulls. Such a great truck build, just badass.
  • Wow. A turbocharged vehicle that can do something other than ruin a set of tires. Very cool.

Can’t get enough of this truck!! More videos PLEASE!
  • Man's truck for men, right there. Nice work, country boy.
  • had a 79 f100 back in the late 80s standard steering, standard trans (3 on the tree), standard brakes. my first truck while i was in highschool. had 55 bags of seed soybeans in the box and was towing a flatrack with another 155 bags on it. luckily only had to go about 6 miles lol. those 300 l6 are damn near indestructible, and you have given yours a major upgrade with the injection and the turbo!
  • With a 1984 F150 300, T18 granny 4 speed and 3.08 axle ratio I once towed a two axle trailer with a 1986 E250 van on it with a bunch of sheet rock inside. Everything together was 11,000 pounds and it definitely felt like it. Another time I towed a 1983 F350 chassis cab dually that weighed 7,000 pounds. I used a huge home made tow bar that is around 8’ long and between 100 and 150 pounds itself. I don’t remember which 300 powered F150 I used to tow that F350. I owned around a dozen mostly 1981-1986 F150’s. All but one had the 300-6.
  • Great build! A turbo 300 with a Holly Sniper is a near perfect truck engine. I like the steel wheels and old school bias-plys. Reminds me of my old 1977 High-boy. I was poor and had to keep the split rims that it came with. It was the early 90s and it was difficult even back then to find tire shops that would work on them. Subbing to follow this build.

That’s a sharp looking ole truck you have there. Ford always did make a bad ass of sorts in those trucks. The 4.9 is a killer engine too.

My plan is to convert 79 Ford camper special to 4x4 with 300 inline six turbo. Thanks for an excellent real-world video of the capabilities of your truck.
  • Dang! 12k load for an ol' ¾ ton Dent Side? That's actually really good! Know a guys who's Ram 3500 reg cab 5.7 SRW that's rated only up to 13,500...but it's a "2018" 4th Gen Lol. Seemed to be doing just fine, no complaints through out the whole trip from the engine, then again wouldn't expect any less from the mighty 300. I gotta say dude, it's been a dream to build an old truck with a turbo straight six like yours, and you're the only guy on this whole platform actually doing it, and doing it right. On top of it, you're keeping in with the traditional styling/function. If you keep towing like you do, I see an F350 leaf pack, a 5 link setup up front, and a brownie box in the not too distant future haha. Keep up the great work boss, looking forward to what's coming next👍
  • I've owned 3 of these engines, legendary torque, power and indestructible. This is my next project

I could listen to thing whistle in my sleep. Fantastic! Got a 94 with the i6 and am thinking about doing this.
  • @hardr0cker64
I love this, My goal for the next two years is to put a twin turbo Chevy 292 into a cateye 2500. This thing is a beaut’ and she sounds wonderful. Gotta love those turbo straight six’s
  • @lordxandalf
Man, could you imagine if ford had made a diesel version of this engine? Like yeah of course the block and cylinders would need to be beefed up along with pistons and rods. But man, this engine is stout, love seeing how insane this thing is with just a turbo.
  • @noone42069
thats super sick, beautiful truck! love the colours!
  • @DJSI3434
listening to that engine is therapeutic.
  • @TestECull
