I honestly think the symbolism comes down to "This will pay my mortgage". It's by far Ken Russell's most mainstream film after "Tommy" and even that was more of an audiovisual experience than a film.

So wait. Does Broadchurch count as a secret multi-Doctor story? Since it features David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, and the honorary First Doctor David Bradley? If it does, it might be the most high profile of the batch. Also I'm sure there's a way to connect Capaldi's involvement in this movie with Colony Sarff from Series 9, but I'm not quite sure how...
