DRONE CONFRONTATION

Published 2021-12-08
Went out to fly my DJI Air 2s drone today and had this confrontation with a construction site security guard. I'm standing on public property.
Had to give the nice man an education on Airspace ownership and the fact that they don't own the sky.. there isn't any magic wall that extends upward from their property.

The FAA doesn't own the airspace...We, the people do. We just pay them to keep it safe.
  • "I understand you are allowed to fly over our property, but you are not allowed to fly over our property " lmao
  • Was nice he ended up asking and not arguing further. You handled yourself very well sir. Nicely done.
  • I like how at the end he said he was asking, even though he knew you had the right.
  • I get that it’s legal and am a “pilot” myself but there are certain a-holes that purposely fly extremely low and slow over my backyard pool when my daughters and her friends are swimming and it is so weird so I get the anger that people have.
  • What the hell ! Is the Drone going to Shit on the Property ? These People are so Crazy ! Don't fly over my Property ! So we're am I going to fly if everyone say the same thing ? Hahahaaaa .
  • I had bought a drone, and was standing in the yard, giving it a try out, just flying about 15 to 20 feet off the ground and staying within the yard. Here comes Johnny Law telling me they received complaints from my upstairs neighbors, that I had been using my drone to look in their windows.I said which ones? He pointed to a window that the curtains were open. I told him he was so full of shit, the EPA would be coming to take him to the sewer plant. I told him to walk around to the front he will see the door to the upstairs is padlocked and has been for 3 months, no one lives up there. He was working his jaw like he was chewing gum. I said yup, sucks to be caught in your own lie, there's your car, hit the road pump monkey.

Gee, maybe if you didn't lead with something like, "YES, I CANNNN!" you just might be able to educate this guy. This video has a lot less to do about flying drones (which I do, under Part 107) than it does about your lack/absence of ability to talk to people. Trotting out your licenses and certifications up front isn't the way to do it. Come on, dude...

@0.47 I understand that, NO YOU DO NOT, YOU DO NOT OWN THE SKY. Why let people think you’re stupid when you can open your mouth and remove all doubt. Fly over this site please, say once a month to see how it develops and to educate the uneducated.

Why do people think they own the airspace? No idea of the law or aviation regulations but still here to enforce them. It’s a little like going up to people and telling them not to wear a brown hat where I can see it. Neither one is a crime or anyone else’s business.
