I'm a lesbian. When I was in the closet, I discovered this song and felt like it described me. I was hopelessly in love with my friend. She has a lot of mental health issues and one of her coping mechanisms was dating guys who were older and treated her terribly. They cheated on her, bullied her, stole from her, etc. I hated seeing my friend suffer. I wanted to be what those guys would never be for her. I wanted to take care of her and treat her like the angel she was. But I knew she'd never want me.... because I'm a girl. I'd give her everything... if only I was a boy.

Women are perfect. They know what they want, they just have an incredibly difficult time finding it. My heart goes out to all of them.

when i first heard this song about 7 years ago, i legit remember thinking it was about a lesbian singing to a girl who she cant get with bc shes also a girl. now listening back to it over the years, i think of it as me singing this to the guy who is currently with the girl of my dreams.

I wish guys truly knew what it means to be a woman. Even in 2018 you're judged by your looks, and you're held to impossible standards of not only beauty but morality. You have to be always a mask of woman hood, a Madonna of purity yet expected to be a sex symbol. Men can lie, cheat and have immeasurable sex partners and love is seen as a weakness. I feel this way.
