As a resident of Hammond and working in Riverdale, and living in the Calumet region over 40 years , I really enjoy your videos.

The metal scrapyard may have been the site of National Railway Equipment (NRE). NRE was a scrapper of locomotives and also a dealer and rebuilder of them. I was a railfan back in the 1980s and 1990s. Back then my railfan buddies and I would drive down from the Northwest Side to Dolton Crossing (it was a lot safer back then) and we'd always make a side trip to NRE to see what locomotives were sitting on the siding.

Once again we see the devastating effects of de-industrialization and the loss of manufacturing jobs which sustained communities such as this. Most who can afford to leave do so. No significant development replaces what is lost. Poverty, crime, and corruption ensue as a result. Such typical a scenario now as to be cliched.

Thanks for the video. As a kid, I grew up in South Blue Island. Hung out In Dixmoor a lot . Sure has Changed. Now I am in Mokena. Yes and go to the town of Phoenix.
-
Thanks Chris. Another Chicago suburb I'll be sure to avoid permanently.
-

All that money should have replaced those water mains. I feel bad for the people who have to live there 😢❤
-
I remember when the suburbs used to be nice and manicured looking and now it went to ish

I know the southern portion of Cook County is getting worse over the years, especially in South Side Chicago. When it comes to suburbs, Dixmoor, IL is quite a different struggling suburb in Chicagoland. I think Dixmoor has to be the most corrupt suburb in Cook County.
-
The water main issues are all of Thorton Township
-
One of the highest taxed states in the country and still can’t get it together. I’m so glad I left 40 years ago.

Blue Island is a popular place for train watching especially at the junction and cross-overs of Broadway St on the north side of town. There are several rusty steel bridges over the SAG -Cal Channel which make for nice photo backgrounds. There is a lot of train movements through this intersection. The area is a little on the grungy side for sure. There is a little unpaved parking area, and one of the homes has quite a nice garden growing in his backyard during the summer including a small orchard of peach trees. I did find a Dunkin' Donuts in the town proper, so how bad could it be? I forgot to ask if they had toasted coconut!😜😂 If you run out of locations in the rust belt, we have quite a few super fund sites here in New Jersey! Keep up the good work!

Ah, Dixmoor. When you can't make it in Blue Island, you move into a trailer park in Dixmoor.
