We've all heard of processed foods, but what about ultraprocessed foods, which make up more than half of the typical American diet? In this special Chasing Life: Spotlight, CNN Medical Correspondent Meg Tirrell (www.cnn.com/profiles/meg-tirrell) explores how these foods became so widespread and the potential risks they pose to our health. She speaks with Professor Marion Nestle (steinhardt.nyu.edu/people/marion-nestle) , a leading authority on nutrition and food policy and NIH senior investigator Kevin Hall (www.niddk.nih.gov/about-niddk/staff-directory/biog…) , who conducted the first and only controlled clinical trial on ultraprocessed foods. Hear about the study's remarkable findings; it may change some of the choices you make in the grocery store.

  • Our first mistake is accepting ultra processed foods as Food It isn't food and our government shouldn't allow junk like this to be sold to the public

WE need to grow local organic food everywhere and not depend on big brother for our meals

Nice podcast, simple summary of the research, what's possible, no attempt to blame the "ignorant" or demonize the industry. If, however, these promised revised formulations for UPFs don't appear, now we have the proof of the damage they do, it's a battle worth fighting. I chose to live near good sources of food, but it's getting a bit harder each year.

Grow your own food or buy it at the Farmers Market.

I stopped eating fast food right after the pandemic 😷 in late 2020 and it was the best decision of my entire life!

You went weak at the end because you didn't want to anger the food industry.

Imagine if schools taught material everyone actually needs to know.

I need to completely give up processed and ultra processed foods
  • I am a label reader and if any ingredients include high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated fat are automatically don’t buy. Then if there is any ingredient that I don’t recognize I don’t buy. I have been a scratch cook : I bake bread

Profits only come because the CONSUMER, the BUYER, the HUMAN wants what is being sold more than money and all alternatives. But you hate people don't choose as you demand.

I would not know what the word fool got into a fruit recipe

Does anyone have any good bug recipes? Is Uncle Bosey processed food?
  • Was it a coincidence that as I clicked on this item, I was opening my first food of the day: potato chips. In my defense, my addiction is to a relatively healthy brand, I've read and evaluated the label, and I am able to stop at one serving. Or so I tell myself.
