Since this is a common misconception, I'll note it here; 1.18 doesn't prevent you from skipping the rain, the thing you've heard is a bug fix that prevents you from resetting the rain cycle, which is how a lot of servers ended up raining every other in-game day

Seeing as you get a new origin after each death, it'd be interesting to add a new section to your starter base themed around that origin. Might make the place look like an eyesore but it'd be a glorious eyesore.

Hey Joel there's an enchantment book called "Water Protection (up until III)" in the Origins mod that prevents you from taking damage in water for X seconds depending on the tier. Its quite a hassle though since they only spawn in dungeon/mineshaft/stronghold library/underwater ruin chests

That house is genuinely in my list of the most interesting and cool builds I’ve seen in a while and I have no idea why. You say it’s a bit Aztec? I was thinking Japanese…and Greco-Roman in the interior space (don’t ask why). It’s like a whole new culture that could have existed in a different world. Sure, the Aztecs, Greeks and Japanese would have had to merge through a very whacky kind of historical anomaly, but it kinda works if you ask me.

You should make a glass ceiling at height limit above your base, so when it rains it doesn’t effect you.
