I grew up about 15 mins away from here so I've played this course many times. Grant isn't just hyping it up for the cameras it really is a beast. The 15th hole plays about 20 yards longer than it looks on approach so most people come up short of the green, get swallowed up by the bunkers and end up making double or triple bogey and that's when you hit a good tee shot, I've played with friends who have made double digit scores on that hole and I have personally 4 putted that green. There are tons of huge fairway bunkers all over the course strategically placed to punish errant tee shots and the rough is so insanely thick, I've lost balls on drives only like 5-8 yards off the fairway. I'm a pretty decent player like a 4-5 handicap and my best score here ever was 82. I loved this video so much, all the courses at Bethpage hold a special place in my heart and to hear Grant say its the best course he's had on the channel is just so awesome.

Good Ole Bethpage. Welcome to Long Island! Edit: That birdie on 14 was nice. Edit 2: Just wanted to share a quick story: Everyone always said my uncle was a great golfer. In the past few weeks I have been spending a lot of time with him because he was sick. I learned that he once shot 2 under at Bethpage Black. He passed away yesterday from cancer, but watching this was like walking the course with him and being proud. Nicest man I ever knew. Love you Uncle Chuck

I grew up close to Bethpage and have spent a lot of time playing the courses. Ive played the Black more times than I can remember. I was lucky enough to play the week after the 2002 Open and the pins were still in their sunday spot. I was friends with some local pro's and we were allowed to play from the back, back tee's...The ones from sunday. It was the hardest round of golf I have ever played. Thw rough was always long but they grew it out extra for the Open. If you hit it in the rough, it was like a one stroke penalty. When walking in the rough, you couldnt see the tops of your shoes. Finding you ball in the rough was a challenge. The fairways were half the width they normally were. On some holes, you had to carry 270 just to reach the fairway. If you couldnt you were in 2 foot high fescues. The greens are unbelieveavly tricky. Its impossible to go low unless you know the course well. There are very few birdie opportunities. You must keep the ball in the fairway. If its windy you must keep the ball below the tree line and look for spots to run the ball up onto the green. No carts are allowed on the black and ita a very long hilly walk...Its a real test! I still have my ball from that 2002 open setup round. Best public course in the world IMO....

Really glad I got to watch this. It brings back many memories of some very good golf and days when the Black Course just kicked your butt . I started playing the Black course when I was about 16. Played it into my 40’s when I moved my company out of Long Island NY. Back in the day we use to drive to the course at 11.00 or 12:00 midnight and sleep in your car to get an early tee time. They we’re called bakery tickets. Girlfriends and wives were not to happy with this arrangement but we were golf nuts and loved it. Thanks for the memories.

your love for golf is absolutely infectious. "I love bunker shots" "I love Driver off the Deck" "I love getting to hit full short irons". I would feel so at ease if I were to get to play a round with you. even though I'd shoot around 100, you'd probably just be an unstoppable positive force the whole time. you consistently make golfing look like the best thing in the world.

Now living in Fort Laudy FL, but born and bred NYC not 30 minutes from Bethpage, it’s so nostalgic seeing content like this ! Believe it or not growing up as a NY state resident I never paid more than $75 to play BP Black. Oh how spoiled I was having an all world, Tour & Majors used ( and upcoming 2025 Ryder Cup ) track to play pretty much on the regular and whenever I wanted. Every year as the golf season came to a close, due to winter weather in the NorthEast, there was nothing like playing BP Black to measure where your game was. That track is a true & absolute golf barometer. Now living in Florida for 10 years there are very very few things other than proper bagels & pizza that I miss about the GulaG that’s better known as New York. Seeing content of Bethpage State Park, the national treasure it is with its 5 tracks, floods all of the greatest golf memories I have growing up there !!

The way the shot onto the green just stopped completely on the 8th hole was so amazing and the perfect putt was for a birdie was just icing on the cake. Great golfing my dude hope to see more!

Been playing there since 1980. So I was fortunate enough to see all the changes. On 15, as a 12 HDCP who no longer hits the ball far, it’s drive, punch to inside 100 then find the green with the 3rd and hope to 1 or even 2 putt

I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed watching you play this course. This is by far my favorite round of golf on YouTube I have ever watched. I could say it was the course that made it so special, but in reality it was watching you enjoy yourself. You remained positive and focused while keeping your enthusiasm in check throughout the entire round. This is what the game of golf is all about, simply having fun! Can’t wait to see what lies ahead for you on the PGA Tour. Keep up the positive attitude and the great golf play and it won’t be long before you win your 1st tournament and major. Well Done!

Great round Grant. I played there when I was about a 10 HCP and walked off the course feeling like I went 12 rounds with Tyson. This course will eat you alive. I think I shot like 108 or even worse. Super thick rough, a lot of blind shots, and doing it all after sleeping in the car all night waiting for a tee time. Just happy I can say I played there.
  • Thanks for that Grant! I got to relive my round around the Black in June 2018...yep, that's the year the us open was at shinnecock. We did a buddy trip to walk Shinnecock on Tuesday and then played the Black on Wednesday. Fantastic!!
  • @mjac8373
What I like most; he hits a perfect hybrid to the green and the camerama man asks "What's it like to be able to do that?" Rephy' "It's wieerd man, doesn't happen all the time" all with that huge happy smile pure joy. Yep, that's a real champion who is rare as hen;s teeth. Thanks for this video made my day and I sure needed it today. Merry Christmas to all of you and yours.

Used to live down the block from Bethpage. I played this course in the 80s when it was banged up and you could get on any time you wanted, big rocks in the bunkers fairways were almost as much dirt as grass. Played it last year and sadly my last time. Its a young mans course walking it beat me up. Took me days to recover. walked off with a 89 with a 8 on 15. Green is my favorite course there.
  • @ev-yt2064
You played really well. Your positive attitude will take you a long ways in your golf career. Great job.
  • @seancook2264
Totally agree with the comment about walking the course. Always found that you get more of a sense of the next shot when walking especially when approaching the green.
  • @jq7247
I learnt a lot watching this. The way you are always positive and never let even missed short putt affect your attitude. That is truly amazing to me. To have that composure. Awesome Champ.
  • Play this course fairly often. There is no way to describe in words what the rough does to your club as you swing through. Its like swinging through steel wool
  • @bob5365
Shooting 75 on that course in the wind is impressive. Grants game is getting better each week. Keep it going!!
  • @AsPureAsitGets
I’m new to golf and so I am learning so much on this. But I’ll subscribe because honestly your optimism and watching you play that course really does bring to lie why the joy and the sport is really there. I get it there will be bad days as in any sport, but seriously the optimism really does help someone push through a bad day and kick some serious but great job man.
