Nestled in the picturesque Fingal Valley, Valleys Hearth finds its home at the foot of a rocky mountain in North Eastern Tasmania. Here, amidst warm summers and crisp winters, master craftsman Markus Englmayr embarked on a mission to craft a dwelling of unparalleled uniqueness, anchored by an ingenious passive solar design.

A labor of love, the construction unfolded on site, with Markus personally overseeing every detail. Imbued with character, the home boasts beautifully laminated curved hardwood beams, reclaimed windows and doors, and exquisite natural edge timber joinery.

One standout feature is the attached greenhouse, a practical marvel that recycles greywater and utilizes its warmth to naturally heat the interior. A thoughtful balance of thermal mass and solar gain ensures a consistently comfortable atmosphere throughout the year, minimizing the need for extra heating or cooling.

Stepping into Valleys Hearth is an experience of quiet beauty—a retreat where nature and craftsmanship subtly intersect. The property offers unique touches, like a shower in the greenhouse where you can bathe surrounded by tropical banana palms in soft sunlight. A timber hot tub, a distinctive sauna, and a well-equipped kitchen invite relaxation and culinary delights.

The landscape Valleys Hearth is nestled in is awe inspiring to say the least, with the home a fantastic example of how self sufficient and off grid living doesn't mean going with out. Markus, your generosity in sharing this extraordinary home showcases the boundless possibilities here. This stay has left an indelible mark on me, and I'm certain it will captivate and inspire many others. Thank you for the profound experience.

This house is a gem! I work in construction and am passionate about natural buildings. You mentioned a warmth inside the house and I’m very curious about the composition of the walls. Hemp concrete and hemp glazes give that sort of feel to built spaces. It’d be fantastic if the owner of the property was willing to give a tour and get into the details of the built! Idea for a part two maybe? Loved the moment when you shared your thoughts about bathing in nature. I definitely relate. Cheers!
  • I delivered the plaster to this house and it's so nice to see the finished product . Was very impressed then absolutely amazed with the finished product

This is the closest house I've seen online to what I have sketched out in my notebook as my ultimate goal. (Arched passive House / greenhouse combo) Glad to see it works so well. ☺️ Excited for the future.

Ben. WOW! So firstly a massive thank you to Marcus for sharing this with your channel. So different and clever. Anyone looking for an 'eco' hideaway this has to be it. The property has everything. There is someone for everyone. Different and ingenious. The heating system, the greenhouse ...well everything. As you said somewhere you could re-charge' and leave feeling so much better in every sense. A beautiful natural location. Marcus your craftsmanship is incredible. Anyone visiting Tasmania should put this on the 'stay at' list. Top of the list. Thank you, Ben great video!

Such a beautiful place, with so many nice little touches, I really love Marcus' aesthetic and attention to detail. The lampshades really caught my eye, I wish i could find ones like that here... The semi outdoor shower beside the banana plant and outdoor bath both look like such relaxing places to unwind at the end of the day. Great to stay for a few days, but imagine how chilled out you'd be if you lived somewhere like that 😊
  • I love that you pointed out the beauty of the toilet :). What an awesome house, thanks for showing it.

What an awesome place! As someone who loves Earthships and has helped build four of them, I really enjoy seeing houses incorporating aspects of Earthships. Especially the greenhouses. They provide a wonderful feeling of warmth and life.😊😊😊 Thanks for sharing this wonderfully made video with us all. 🌻

You told the vibe of this place so well. Beautiful reflections.
  • @gie_melora
Excellently done. Love all of it! the use of curves, stones and wood….and ways for your spirit to connect with earth and give thanks for being here now.

I really appreciate the way you present these types of properties. It's so nice to actually be shown the house and explain the thought put behind elements of it. Rather than some creators you watch, just pointing out the blatantly obvious which is repeated for every video "This is the kitchen. This bedroom has a bunk bed. There's a fridge and coffee stations in the kitchen" etc.. Your content makes me want to actually get out there and visit these places!!
