How to make roti: Rooti, or roti, is a relatively new entrant to the Bengali kitchen. Wheat being a staple in the Northern parts of India, rotis, chapatis, and phulkas are the mainstay. In Bengal because the main crop is paddy, the staple has always been rice. It is only in the last 50 years that Bengalis have started eating rotis. Rotis are more popular as breakfast or dinner. For breakfast, rooti is served mashed with milk and a fruit such as banana (doodh-ruti-kola), or with a torkari. For dinner, ruti is usually served with a protein such as egg or chicken curry, or with a thick dal. Another reason for the popularity of rotis in Bengal is its convenience as tiffin or lunchbox item for school or office. Ruti-torkari is less prone to leakage and fewer items are required to eat roti than rice (at least for Bengalis).

This was the most aesthetically pleasing roti making video I’ve seen
  • I tried this technique last night and made the most perfect, soft rotis ever! I used 195g boiling water for 200g atta and I was able to incorporate more water during the kneading. The rotis were a breeze to roll out. Thank you as always for using metric. I weighed out 40g dough per roti, very useful for the days you have to count your macros. Love that the dough has zero oil. We ate 8 rotis with dinner and the following day, I microwaved the remaining two to eat with anda bhurji. The rotis remained pillowy soft. Thanks as always 💗
  • My moms tip is to use the flour as less as possible for dusting purpose as extra flour anyway hardens the roti when it is not hot anymore. For me she makes perfect roti specially the rumali roti 😊

Time has proved...roti making IS a rocket science.... Video is very good. And the music in the back ground is just to die for... Video editing is of master's level. So much information in just making a roti... Best video i think for this topic... Great work....keep going... Just know...a lot like me are fan of you...love you ..

You guys in the comment section seems to have amazing lives.. I and my roommates live in Pune as we work for the IT corporate companies, so we make our own Roti's since 2018 and believe me if I say we make some of the best Roti's we have ever had since we were kids. We have to make at least of 30-40 Roti's every day and we are now pros.. 😂😅

My mother is sick. It's time I sit her down and feed her myself like she's done for me for the past 23 years.
  • I can cook anything except a perfect roti like this. This is still a rocket science for me
  • Excellent. Never imagined I'd be watching a video on how to make a Roti with so much attention. It's a treat to watch. Aesthetically pleasing video.
  • I feel proud. I can rotate the roti without having to move it manually.. I am no longer a beginner yay

I’ve been making rotis for a month but none of them puffed up fully until I used this method. Tip For everyone who’s eyeballing the water quantity, just let half of the flour be wet
  • I need this right now coz my mom is sick And I have to do it on my own 😴 Ab pta chala kitti mehnat krti h mumma ❤️

The hot water was key! I've always struggled with making roti's and all I did was use hot water this time, and it made a world of a difference! Thank you!!a

What kind of black magic is this? Been practicing my roti skills, finger are burnt numb and the rotis are either too thick and doughy or turn into a big crispy Pringle
  • These turned out the best I’ve ever made!! So soft and went great with chikar choley 😍 Thank you so much for the recipe!! The boiling water is definitely what makes these so soft, great tip!

This is the best Roti instructional video I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much. I am nearly there! But have been using cold water up to now so will try boiling water tonight when I make a couple for my vegetarian Friday (Catholic!) ❤️. Edit - I followed this recipe tonight as promised and made the two best Roti I have ever made, lovely and soft, delicious. Thank you again.
